Any reason the Sea Dweller is out? Clean look plus the date...

I went without the date. If it was an only I would probably go date, but still a tough decision as I like the aesthetic of the SubC. I also like the fact you don't see many in the wild. (only seen one in the last two years and I travel NA heavily) Good luck in your decision and post pics when you are done. Mine says hello!

Date. I have a GMT and a Daytona and miss the date terribly when wearing the Daytona. Besides, I do like the cyclop...

I prefer the date version. Cyclops to me is part of the overall Rolex aesthetic.

Do you need to know the date as part of your job function?

I sign and date documents daily as part of my job.

I much prefer looking at my watch to confirm the date rather than my cell phone.

114060. Prefer the uninterrupted clean dial layout.
The date may be useful for some but I don't think it's necessary.

For me the simple answer is "no date"...and for a very simple reason. The only thing that changes in a 24 hour period is the time. Most people should be able to remember what the date is or what day of the week it is with one glance at your phone or the newspaper in the morning. I'm sure that there are watches out there that show the month and year as well but where do you stop? I'm not trying to be critical of those that love those type of complications. It's just my opinion that they're of limited use and tend to clutter the dial.
I much prefer a watch in its simplest form and, to me, the Sub without the date is so much better looking.

I prefer the look of the no date and that's why I bought it. That was the major factor for me. What is most important to you? And I think it does fly under the radar which I see as a plus. I do miss the date sometimes but I have a cell phone and I've just become more conscious of the date. You can't go wrong either way. A personal choice. Good luck!

If you are just starting out, get the 114060. It's unique, only comes in steel, and is the purest and most original of the Rolex dive lineup if you ask me.

Another vote for 114060. I like to fly under the radar (no cyclop).

I can't decide which I like better. I like the esthetics of the no date, but need the date. 50/50

It's simple- I've noticed over the years the general public looks for the cyclops and identify that with a Rolex. When I had a Daytona, a couple commented on the watch and asked what type it was. When I told them Rolex, I realized they were looking for the cyclops. I say go with the date. You might regret not having it later, but I don't think you will ever regret having it.

With all do respect, imo it should never be about what the public wants/recognize. I personally never take this into consideration. All it matters is what watch I love more. The need for the date function is debatable. I like to have it, it's useful but I can do without.

Btw, my Explorer has never been recognized or complimented. Unless someone is really into watches, this model never gets recognized. And it has a cyclop too!

My first Rolex was the no date sub. I've since purchased a YM, which has a date. My next purchase will most likely also have a date, so I feel I made the right choice.

If I was getting one myself I would get the Sub (ND) as I have 3 other pieces with the date. I love the clean look of the dial and how it is more true to the originals without the date. Some might be interested to know that here in Thailand most AD's will not give a discount on a Sub Date but offer a 10% discount straight away on the Sub.

I prefer the date too as I need it. I do not like the cyclops however, so I suggest Sea Dweller. I prefer the thinner Submariner case however, so I suggest the Sub Date and take off the cyclops if you don't like it (as I did) :D
And yes if it is going to be in a rotation of watches, get the No Date. Its symmetry is beautiful.
