Unloved Turn-o-graph?

Just looking for my next Rolex! As a relative newbie, doing some research on the now discontinued turn-o-graphs. Beautiful watches, red second hand & date, rotating fluted bezel, oyster bracelet, blue/black dial, reasonable price for a discontinued watch... what’s not to like? Has real history as Rolex’s first tool watch and used by USAF. My impressions are that it was never very popular & shunned, but I really can’t see why? All the ingredients of a great watch surely?

Agree with all of the above. It’s on my list at some point too. This will satisfy my datejust craving!

I really dig the Turn-O-Graph and want one also.

Cool watch in my opinion.

I had not even heard of one until last night when I saw a TT pop up on SwissWatchExpo, they had a good price on it as well! It did not list the size, however, is 36mm the largest they came?

Yes, I am pretty sure it is, and I wish they would come up with a 40 (possibly even a 41) version. I found the bezel on my old GMT quite useful, and hope the TOG line is brought back.

Two issues with the last rendition of the Turn-o-graph:

1- The bezel rotates freely around the case which is a problem because it mostly doesn’t stay where you set it. The bezel has no ratchet mechanism like the GMT, for instance, which is a let down.

2- The paint of the bezel’s triangular top marker wears out quickly. It’s truly amazing that Rolex screwed up that bezel so badly.

Other than that, I love my T-o-G with black dial and Jubilee bracelet. By the way, the bezel on those watches is made of gold.

Funnily enough, I have just started looking at them as a possible 2nd watch.
The white one in the pic above looks lovely.

What do you mean by "the bezel rotates freely" ?

That it can be rotates clockwise and counter-clockwise?

I own this 'slightly blingy', lol, bi-metal Turn-O-Graph. I purchased it new in 2011. I was drawn to the slate dial and the red accents. I still have it, and I'm still very happy with it. As you noted, there's a SS Turn-O-Graph floating around with a matte-black dial & red accents. I think it first debuted around 2005. It is absolutely gorgeous. It comes in both Oyster and Jubilee bracelet variations. It turns up in secondary markets from time to time. The blue-dial version is quite handsome, too. Enjoy your search. Let us know how it goes. Mine says hello. Regards, -Rick.

Lovely, thanks for posting! Pure sporty class. It looks great on a TT bracelet, looks great on your alligator black leather, and even works on a quality black NATO (try it).

My first Rolex was a TT Datejust Turn-O-Graph white tapestry dial, which I still have and regularly wear.

It's the only TT Datejust I like. I'm a Datejust fool and tend to prefer all stainless, but the Turn-O-Graph has it's own vibe in gold. Nothing else looks like it, it can't be remotely mistaken for anything else. The sporty Blingmaster.

I like the last tog version. I saw a blue dial one at an AD and really liked it.

Too many others before it in line, but if the right deal comes along...

I also agree with. I had to sell my beloved TOG a while ago. Believe me, I *still* miss it. My absolute favorite watch. Here's a pic.

IMO is one of the most useful watches. Have all I like in a watch, turning bezel, different date colour font, nice dial, 36mm case, different seconds hand colour...
I love mine. Sure you will keep it for many years if you find the one you like. Happy hunting!

Both these points are true, however the bezel will stay put unless knocked. Its intended use is not really for life altering situations - like a tool watch (Sub); but merely helpful inaccurate timing situations - like ca parking etc.
It is a crossover between a tool watch and a dress watch. Perhaps that’s the true reason that it did not do as well as one would had hoped.
My first ToG was the 116261 black dial rose Rolesor on an Oyster bracelet. The bezel has a slightly different profile to the standard Datejust fluted bezel, but not as wack as the Datejust II style. That was 10 years ago all my triangle is just fine. The red seconds hand really pops against the gloss black dial, as does the red date.
My second ToG was the limited Japanese edition of 116263. It’s a yellow Rolesor on a Jubilee bracelet. The seconds hand and date are Rolex green! 300 were made and sold exclusively in Japan at the end of the ToG’s lifespan - 2011. This watch is so unknown, that many watch sales people say it’s fake or modified.
I hope Rolex reintroduces the ToG, but using the Datejust’s bezel (which looks better than the ToG’s)
Regards

Hey bud, haven't seen a post from you in a while. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

I vividly remember when you purchased the green TOG - t'was a little controversial since no one had seen it - being a Japan Only issue. When you posted that magazine pic, the naysayers were silenced.

Glad to hear you still have it and like it: it's very, VERY cool. (And rare) I'm not telling you anything you don't already know: Just needed a reason to say hello.

Hello

Best regards,
Mark

I bought one in 2002. S/G with a white pyramid dial; old school bezel. Beautiful watch. I had never seen it before or since. I look on this forum for it, but haven't seen anything close to it. I still have it and would sell it if anyone's interested. I'll try and post pictures when I can. Edolecki's watch is close, but imagine his with an off-white pyramid dial and a S/G non-jubilee band (can't think of the name of the band). Underappreciated Rolex, IMO.
