Final Thoughts on the Grey Ghost?

Since some of the members have seen it in the flesh - I'd like to know if the Grey Ghost lives up to the hype or fails to impress.

I'm being offered one for USD 27,000 (new) and would like to know your opinions in terms of:
1. Overall look
2. Value retention

Cheers!

I really like it, I ended up ordering a 15500 but I could have easily gone with this instead.

it looks nice in renderings. however in real life sometimes it looks nice, sometimes it looks a bit bland and dull...

i thought i would prefer it to the elephant, but when you put them side by side in natural light, the elephant wins imho

I think it looks good but just a bit too grey overall, maybe a black strap would help.

I haven't seen this one in real life yet, but from a grey perspective - doesn't the elephant have more grey? While this one has elements of white/silver? Or do you mean too monochromatic?

In terms of sheer appeal?

You prefer the 44m flatter ones?

I've only had mine for 4 days now but so far it has exceeded all my expectations. I can't really speak on the value retention (don't plan on ever selling anyways) but for me it is the only watch I have found that checks all my required boxes:

Open caseback
Date function
Chronograph function without locking pushers
Scratch resistant case (titanium)
Scratch resistant bezel (ceramic)
Lightweight
Comfortable rubber strap
Color scheme goes with literally every normal day outfit

Is that $27,000 the total price? If you have to pay the $27k plus taxes then I would suggest going through DavidSW. That is where I got mine and he already has another in stock on his website.

I like it as the nicest of the 42, but prefer the 26400 and 44 ROO instead. For that money, you can get a 44 Ti and change back.

Between that and this, the Ti wins every time. Size is not an issue as it sits flat nicely on the wrist.

Pics simply do not capture the appeal of this watch. I wouldn't dismiss it until you've handled it in the metal. The watch was designed to be monochromatic but there is enough contrast brought out by different lighting conditions that makes the Ghost continuously fun to wear.

As to value retention, the Ghost was trading at slightly above retail when it first came out. But I was able to walk into an AP boutique and purchase same day earlier this year, which means that prices might start coming down on the secondary if they haven't already.

Yes, I much prefer the sculpted, stylish, contoured pushers of the 44 range. I will never buy a 42 whilst they have those mundane stick pushers. Just my personal view.

And to be clear, I do like grey. For instance, I think a grey dial goes really well with an RG watch, but the lack of colour and contrast on this will get boring. It would to me anyway.

I tried it on in a boutique - went back and forth for 30 minutes. . . .just didn't love it enough, and felt would be unsatisfied with a purchase.

My girlfriend also exceeded all of my expectations the first 4 days.

J/k amazing watch. I tried it at the bal harbour boutique. Subdued and nice for daily use.

I bought the Ghost and obviously really like it. Previously had a 39mm Royal Oak Chrono 26300 that was a bit more suit dressy. Since then I had been looking at AP Royal Oak and Offshore models for a long time and this was the one that finally got me. At first I overlooked it due to the grey dial/bezel and the light grey/blue band all seeming a bit monochrome indoors at the store but the watch's subtle uniqueness kept bringing me back to it for consideration.

If you stare at it dead on in bad lighting it can look like monochrome flat grey but in real life moving around in different settings it shows off very nicely. It is sporty with the rubber blue/grey band yet still gives off sophistication and elegance with the overall color tones and really pops in different lights and angles.
On value I paid $27,700 and plan on keeping it.

Absolutely love it, I’m a huge grey fan in general though.
Super comfortable, lightweight and the ceramic bezel are all winners for me.
The size is also a perfect fit for my wrist.

Only seen in photos - some lightning gives a much darker bezel hue. I think that looks great under those conditions.

Yes I mean more mono, and white and grey create this effect more than black and grey which is why the Elephant is more dynamic to my eye, esp on a black strap as well.

I like it, the only thing I dislike is the grey strap. I’d switch it with a black rubber strap, maybe with the deploying clasp

I've been considering this exact configuration due to the fact the only downside is it's a little more annoying to put on each morning. However, I'm worried it won't be as comfortable with the metal. I'd much prefer comfort over ease of putting it on.

Can anyone weigh in on the loss of comfort by switching to deploying clasp?

EDIT: A quick search on here revealed the AP deployment is quite uncomfortable

Quite frankly I do too but unfortunately, besides the new Titanium/Blue, all the other 42s have these. For my wrists even 42 is pushing it so I wouldn't want to go 44.

I've had the Navy and the Elephant in the past and got rid of them because they became cumbersome to wear. This is exactly why I'm interested in the titanium model (I really loved the Elephant) and the ceramic bezel is an added bonus!

Thank you for sharing these pics - they really bring out the dynamism as well as the contrasting tones of titanium and ceramic in different lighting conditions!

it's a great looking piece, and shifts in color from light grey to gunmetal depending on lighting. and don't forget this has a titanium case so it's a lot lighter and in my experience it is a lot more balanced on the wrist than my steel 42mm ROOs.

I wanted to like it, but I was disappointed when i saw it in person... made me feel like i had lost the color in my vision.

something like the Jarno Trulli blows it out of the water
