Insurance appraisal

Hi all,

I need to get my watches appraised for insurance purposes.

I’ve been quoted £70 per watch by my local AD! Seems extremely expensive to me, also they send them away for 10 days to get it done, not comfortable with that at all.

How do you get yours appraised and what do you pay?

I have some discontinued models so it’s not as easy as just getting the retail price.

Thanks all, much appreciated.

I had a watch valued for insurance purposes by Goldsmiths a couple of years ago that cost £50 IIRC. That particular branch had someone on site who could do the appraisal so they didn't send it off but did keep if for a few days (I think)

I realise his doesn't help you, but one of the reasons I use the insurer I use (Hiscox) is because there's no need for any sort of appraisal or valuation.

That doesn't sound too unreasonable, maybe a little high, not sure how it varies around the world though. Thats about $90 USD. I've seen people mention anything between like $50-$100 USD. 10 days seems extremely long to me though.

All of mine have been appraised in 1 day, and on the low end of the cost range I mentioned.

Just make sure its appraised for true replacement value if that's what you are looking for.

Thanks guys, I’ve spoken with a jeweller locally who can come out and appraise them all and it is much more reasonable.

Thank you

You need to make sure your insurance company accepts a local jeweller. Not all do.

It could be money down the drain.
