Thoughts on this trade?

My friend is getting tired of his Hublot Big Bang and he wants a Rolex. So the trade would be, My YM + Cash (Not a lot, I know these take a hit on the preowned) for the Hublot. Watch looks pretty good, he is going to have to serviced this week. Its no base Hublot, tungsten, ceramic and I believe steel.

Has anyone had any experience with Hublots? Are they any good for dailys? What is TRF view on Hublots, have not seen a lot here.

I could pickup a 16570 later on if I need to complement it.

Thanks!

It's not my personal style, but if you like it it doesn't sound like a bad deal. It's really a question of which one you like more.

If you like it better than your YM then go for it. It's not what I like, but I'm not the one wearing it.

The Ice Bang is the best looking of the Hublots imho, so if you fancy a change then why not? You know resale is poor as these are not loved so make sure you get a very good price.

It depends on your version of yachtmaster and how much cash

It should not be much cash to him, on some yachtmasters, some cash to you

It's probably a fine deal. I've gotten rid of every rolex I had because I used to get bored of watches. I wanted one again and it's the only watch out of Panerai, Bell & Ross, Girard Perregaux, Breitling, Tags, and a few others... and the only one I ever regretted getting rid of was the Rolex. I picked up a Sea Dweller and i'll never get rid of it.

This is a bad place to ask. Or maybe a good place depending on your viewpoint. Most here (myself included) dislike Hublot. As you noted they have poor resale value and they start all kinds of fighting about who invented what and when.

I would not trade for one even if it was "worth" 2X the Rolex.

Hublot's are desirable because the retail is very expensive. It's perhaps the epitome of creating panache by a high price. When I see one in the wild I always feel like it's someone showing of how much money they spent. This is of course all my opinion.

If it floats your boat why not. I personally don't like that dial, it's too busy for my taste, but to each his own.

I'd love a Yachtmaster, so I'm probably not the one to ask. The only thing the Hublot has that I might like Rolex to have is an exhibition case back, but I don't like the one on the Hublot. Don't think that because this is a Rolex board that we all automatically vote Rolex, thee was a guy who wanted to trade a Lange & Sohne for a Rolex and the vote was overwhelming to keep the Lange. It's just that the Hublot isn't that watch. Still, if you have other Rolexes and really want something different, who am I to say...

Have you seen the prices of Hublot, if youre set on trading the YM he may owe you money. Just saying.

If you like it why not?

Now to the money/trade. Do some research on the asking prices for each watch out there and also keep in mind that the Hublot will not be as liquid as the Rolex (a bad thing) and that's worth something also.

Iirc, what you’re proposing is the Ice Bang, which has a tantalum bezel, not tungsten.

Rough benchmark pre-owned price from a retailer – https://www.chrono24.co.uk/hublot/bi...-id5650234.htm

If you like the hublot, go for it. If you are unsure I wouldn't do it, likely to be much harder to flip a hublot down the road than a ym

Do it if you really like the watch, but be forewarned that the residual values very low. I purchased a Hublot at almost 40% off of retail for $14k brand new from an AD; I wore it once, put it in storage, and sold it for $10k a year later.

For me, it's all about wrist time-- which one will you wear and enjoy more? You can always find a replacement Rolex, but you might have a problem with this specific Hublot, if you think it's the "One". Keep in mind that the folks most adamantly anti-Hublot, probably haven't seen, held or owned one (me either).
