Help Rounding Out My Collection!
Hey all! I'm looking to get a 5th watch to round out the "core" 5 pieces of my collection. I currently have the following 4 "core" pieces:
• Rolex Milgauss Z-Blue • Grand Seiko Blizzard SBGA125 • Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15400 Black dial • A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Up/Down White Gold I also have the following pieces (for completeness): • 1966 Rolex Oysterdate Precision 6694 • 1958 Longines Mystery Dial • Seiko PADI • Citizen Eco-Drive Atomic Time Perpetual Calendar Chronograph • 2x G-Shock (1 Black, 1 White) • Quartz Steelers Watch For my 5th "core" piece I'm ideally looking for a mechanical chrono. As you can tell from my signature, I've previously owned a Hesalite Speedy. I had sold it to help fund my Lange, but I do miss it. Here are the pieces I've been considering: • Omega Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich (I'd want to see that movement this time despite the lack of hesalite crystal) • Speedy Tuesday (I have one reserved, but I'm not sure it's worth the asking price - no discount + tax from a boutique) • JLC Master Chronograph Sector Dial (2017 SIHH Release) • Vintage Chronograph (So Many Options Here - Omega, Tag, Hamilton, etc.) • Maybe something from Basel? This will likely be my last watch purchase before I start saving for one of my long term goals, of which there are two: • JLC Atmos Moonphase (Likely within the next year) • Patek 5170G/A. Lange & Sohne Datograph (This will take a long time to save, but I'm pretty set on taking that journey) So what do you all think for the chrono? I'm open to all suggestions! Let's keep the JLC Master Chrono at the top of the budget at $8k MSRP. Here are some photos of the "core" of my collection as of now. |

Speedy. But I would go with the plexiglass one. A sapphire caseback on a toolwatch makes no sense to me.

Also, one more potential recommendation for you 'vintage' option.
What about a vintage Longines 13ZN? It's a legendary mechanical chrono with a great movement and classic esthetic. They're great watches and can be had in 18k for < 8K. |

If it was me, I would actually sell off a few pieces. Skip the current planned purchase and speed up the savings plan for the Datograph.

I'd recommend the Daytona 116520.
Classic model, robust, Rolex quality, and much easier to trade/sell if it doesn't fit your lifestyle. Prices at the moment are also slightly lower due to people buying the ceramic one.. other than that, some other nice chronos are Vacheron, and Patek 5170 and 5980 Nautilus Chrono. *I've also owned the Speedy and it's a nice watch, reminds you of the moon, but the quality/finishing is not comparable imo to the Daytona, which is pretty much mechanical perfection as Rolex's chronograph. Really perfection in a watch.. |

I agree with Mickey - you're hoping to add a chrono PP/ALS in the future, so I don't think the Speedy adds much at all.
A JLC would be nice tho, would be great to get some brand representation in your collection, although I'd rather a standard Master Control Calendar or Moon, over the Chrono. I dislike all the sector stuff they introduced, although it's certainly a nice price point. |
