Really basic question
I'm looking into buying my first Panerai and was wondering if they are all everyday manual winding? I'm thinking about the PAM111. Can someone explain how often I'll need to wind it? Thanks a lot.

Welcome to TRF
No, some PAMs are manual wind, others are automatic The PAM 111 is a manual wind - it has a power reserve on full wind of approx 56 hrs, so you would need to wind it every couple of days Some manual wind PAMs have a longer power reserve e.g. 3 or 8 days, and some of the autos have a power reserve of up to 10 days

111 is a good choice for a first Panerai. I was concerned about manual winding (& no date) as well, but both turned out to be non-issues.
I originally looked at the Panerai automatics, but the 312 & similar models didn't seem to fit right, and for some unknown reason I didn't like the 104 that much. Just make sure to budget enough extra $$ for a couple aftermarket straps. |

The 111 is a nice watch, with a sandwich dial and display back
Be aware that the movement does not hack, i.e. the hands keep moving when you pull out the crown to set the time. This bothers some people, but not others

Welcome to INSANITY & TRF
NOT all Pam's r manual wind but the 111 is, & IMO that's a great start in2 the PANERAI world, but a little hint 1 WILL NOT BE ENOUGH,then comes the strap addiction or strap HOARDING is a better explanation of it Wind as needed |

Try a couple on, get the feel and fit before you commit to a particular model.
111 or 177, or 210 and 183 in Radiomirs. They're all good. Welcome and good luck making the decision. cheers richard |

at first you will be disappointed that there is no date. but then you will realize that its not about the date. its about the strap!

I like the Pam 111 (sandwhich dial). I'm trying to save up for one... It's classy, and the no date complication will take some getting used to.
Manual winds are nice IMHO.

Welcome! The 111 is definitely a great choice. I enjoy both the manual wind & clear caseback.
Good luck! |
