Loud whirling noise on the auto rotor, has any one had issues.
Doesn’t sound as smooth and flawless as one might think, any advice.

Definitely not right.

All my Rolex, including my Sky Dweller, are silent.

The Sky Dweller uses ball bearings in the rotor instead of the solid axle found on the 31xx and previous calibres. So it will sound different.

Without hearing your watch in person there’s nothing that can be said whether it’s normal or faulty.

I purchased a skydweller used and the noise of the rotor as it spins when I move my arm rather fast is really loud and grinding like. the Rolex dealer that I bought it from says that the noise is normal ;and I even send him a video with the stones rattling around... he said that if the time is keeping that it is best not to open it up.
I just don't buy it... I have a sub, a date just , and a tudor pelagos- they are all so very quiet. am I being paranoid?

On my Skydweller, the rotor made noise too, so I dropped the watch off at Beverley Hills RSC.

They told me that they discovered "micro" metal shavings in "the movement", and that HDQ wanted the watch sent back to Europe so they could examine with microscope to determine what failed.

Took six weeks for me to get my watch back from Rolex. They told me that the "movement" was replaced (not repaired).

This was last year I think October 2019.

On my wrist right now, and no noise at all. Dead silent, no rotor ball bearing "feel" as some have described above, just smooth silence, the same as the rest of my 16 Rolexes in my collection.

Also FYI I do have a Hublot Big Bang Skeleton, and it does have the ball bearing rotor "feel" and noise. I loaned it to a friend and after a week they gave it back to me because "it made funny noises" !!

Had the same thing, on a 3130 caliber from 2008. Took it to the local AD. They found that a spring clip that holds the rotor axle in place had come loose and that the bearing needed some oil. Fixed it for free and told me the watch had another couple of years in it before needing a full service.

Pretty good service considering I had bought the watch second-hand from another dealer.
