14060M Rolex stopped ticking

Has anyone encountered their watch suddenly stopped ticking? I looked at my watch this morning when I woke up and saw that it stopped at 9:30 so I proceeded to wind it and after I saw that it was running, I closed the stem.

But then I made myself coffee and saw that the watch was still at the time I set it to, much worst, it doesn't move anymore even if I wind it or even if I shake it. I am a bit worried but also wanted to get idea what could be wrong. I stopped fiddling with it since all I can do now at home is either wind it or shake it. I had it serviced 2 years ago by a reputable watchmaker and seemed to be working fine all the time. It just stopped working this morning all of a sudden.

I would take it to Rolex here when they open but wanted to get your thoughts what could be wrong. I was trying to do quick research and people are saying mainspring but wanted to get someone who encountered something similar even with another watch model.

Thank you very much!

Can be several different things, broken mainspring would usually have it running for a slight bit when wound, running backwards for a few seconds when handling the watch is also a telltale sign for a broken mainspring.

There could also be a dislodged screw blocking the movement.

Agree with that has already been stated. Its not going to hurt anything to wait. I wouldn't keep trying to wind or shake it until you send it in. Very few of us can repair anything without opening a watch!

Did your reputable watchmaker provide a warranty period after service? Most
reputable Rolex independent CW 21s will put that on your receipt.
You can at least make an attempt when time and distance allow. Meanwhile, you might contact the watchmaker by phone and see what he says.

I did, well his warranty was 1 year but that has already passed Last year. He can fix it but he doesnt have access to a rolex account so i am weighing my options since he will use a replacement mainspring if it was indeed a broken mainspring.

He di say it was most likely the mainspring. My other question is a mainspring a disposable part? My watch is 18 years old and i was wondering if i should have has it replaced during service. Is it something typical that breaks? When the watchmaker serviced it 2 years ago, the only materials replaced where gaskets

On an older watch such as yours the repair techs will almost always replace the mainspring as a matter or preventative service.

Gaskets are also replaced at service.

If the second hand isn’t moving at all when you shake it the chances are a screw has come lose and is now blocking the train.

I mean is a screw blocking more grave than mainspring being broke?

If the mainspring is broken at the arbor then you cannot wind it at all but the gear train and balance won't be blocked, thus shaking it will give you some visible movement from the seconds hand.

If a screw or screw head has come loose or broken off and lodged itself in the gear train or pallet fork / balance wheel then there will be no movement whatsoever

Often when a screw has come loose it will first move around freely, and with a moving rotor this means you often have severely damaged bridges, rotor and sometimes even the caseback on the inside. It could be an expensive repair.
