Totally agree: mine was originally Pepsi and was able to purchase from RSC in NYC a Coke as well as all black insert. For the Coke, they happily swapped it while I waited back in their lounge in '06. Those days are probably long gone.

Finally made a deal on a '91 16710, full set and with all three inserts this past friday! Couldn't be happier with the watch! It wears so distinctly different than my 116234 - I have to get used to it!
Now, I’m debating if I should get a jubilee for it, just for the sake of variation.

Oh, and maybe someone can tell me - how much of a click should the bezel be making when rotating? I've tried to find videos on YouTube, but to no avail.
Is the turn-action smooth or should it click distinctly, like a modern Submariner (eg. 114060)?

I love the pepsi insert, it’s my definitely!

Haven't seen a GMT-Master model that I didn't like.

Having said that, the pepsi config on a 16710 emphasizes how thin the bezel inserts are. I personally prefer the wider ones.

It’s a softer click (softer than my dive watches). It can be more or less crisp if there’s gunk under the bezel, but in my experience it’s never fully crisp, in part because it’s 120 clicks (ie, stops on every minute marker and also halfway in between each marker), so there’s not a ton of space between each position.

Ah, alright! That makes sense! Thanks for the clarification.
I guess my watch (still feels surreal saying that) must have some gunk under it - the clicks are quite soft.
Real question is now, do I dare pop off the bezel and clean it myself....

The end of the click spring is bent in sort of an elbow joint shape to make it bi-directional. So it's a rounded shape that lands in the teeth of the bezel ring. Not like the harsh cut off on a Sub click spring. Both have a distinct feel but Subs are definitely more 'clicky'.

Have mine (pepsi) for less than a year. Already thinking of getting a jubilee and maybe a coke bezel.

Best of luck sourcing the different coloured ceramics.

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about it too much, if you can get it to land correctly lined up on the minute markers without much trouble then it’s working.

Obligatory wrist pic:

Not really, no. 1) no independent GMT hand, 2) no jubilee factory option, 3) no coke factory option

Yep that’s all true! but it all makes the watch more ubiquitous. I favor the 16700 because, well, Who doesn’t have a 16710 (including me)?

The 16700 is leagues below the 16710. It has zero advantage.

That's a bit harsh. They look the same and have identical insert capability. Either would suffice for me.

dP

Yes, the Lon Chaney of watches to be sure :)

I agree with how versatile it is, especially since I recently added the jubilee bracelet. I'm fortunate to own a pair of 16710's so now one is on oyster and the other jubilee and I just swap out bezel inserts when the mood strikes.

Has anyone ever damaged theirs when swapping the bezel? The 16710 is at the top of my list and I’ve been very actively looking for the right one, but am wondering just how easy it is to swap the bezels.

the most pro-enthusiast reference ever made.

but Rolex noticed that and 'corrected' it in the later ceramic models.

Rolex is still kicking themselves for selling 6 watches in 1 and not charging 6 times as much!

Never again!

I’m gutted I missed the boat on these. What I would do for a full set late model SEL 16710. Sadly they all seem to go for crazy cash (even the non-3186 movement models) and I can’t bring myself round to accepting such prices.

Maybe short sighted on my part, I don’t know.

Do it very frequently with basic "tools' lying around the house. Never scratched it. I just cover it with a microfiber cloth while pressuring it into place

Wow, a great combo. Could you please share more pics, especially inside and zoomed on lugs? I was told that modern bracelets will not fit vintage GMTs, how did you manage to make it work?

To each their own but I'll never understand why a full set is so important to some. Just get one, send it off to service and take the opportunity to get a new bracelet & inserts. I purchased mine last September, sent it out for service and got a pepsi bezel to replace the original coke.
