My Coke GMT Master II arrived and I need your thoughts

Please help me decide on this one. I paid $6,990, plus 3% credit card fee and about $50 shipping on this watch. The pictures on the website reflected that it had a T < 25 dial, but as you can see it has a SWISS service dial and since it is an E serial, this can't be right. Also, are the lugs over polished in your opinion?

Thanks!

Return it

If they lied about the dial what else could be wrong?

They either sent you the wrong watch or are trying to pull one over on you. I'd recommend reaching out to them ASAP for a refund.

Have you contacted the shop to see what they have to say regarding the dial not matching their online listing??

I don't like the crown guards especially on this watch....the lugs are borderline overpolished to me also from these shots.

going against the grain here. Do the hands and dial glow luminous together (matching lume)?

I would be ok with the lugs, they aren't bad imho.

If the hands and dial glow I would have the watch inspected and if looks ok, keep the watch. Maybe see what they said, but I bet they used stock photos, perhaps you can get them to give you a new pepsi/coke bezel insert for the discrepancy. If hands and dial glow together similarly it is likely a service dial and hands which would imply the watch was serviced.

the dial would be an issue for me if that is not what was advertised. Is there another watch on "their website" that matches this one? Maybe they did send the wrong watch. As for the lugs, some better pictures would help. In some pics it appears as though it still has a nice bevel, and in others they look really rounded. Could be the lighting.

I agree with all of the above comments about the lugs and c/g's.

The date looks a little "left justified" to me (could be the pic angle I suppose)

The dial lume plot surrounds look weird too (could be reflections or distortions I suppose) in the close up pic in your first post

Personally I would not keep it. GL

I'm sure it was a stock photo and that they were not trying to misrepresent the watch, but the ad did not state it was a stock photo. The watch was purchased by a place that has tons of good feedback, so I won't put them as long as they make good on this. I'm a little worried I'll be out the credit card fee and shipping both ways though.

Have your cc company go to bat for you. That would be an easy charge-back win for an item that was mis-represented. The dial not matching photos is a huge issue with me, especially if the website had actual photos of the watch. Maybe it was just a shipping/order picking mistake...

Congratulations on getting the GMT, it is one of my favourite watches. I would have to concur with the the other members, my big issue is the service dial. While it is genuine and nothing wrong with it, that needs to be reflected in the description and pricing.

The lug seem unrecoverable, it seems to have seen a lot of polishing, and the holes are on the verge of cratering with one more polishing.

Do not accept this. The dial is different than the picture you were showed. You have not received the item you purchased.

Dont do it. Ask for refund and if they give you hassle open case with CC company. Keep records of interaction with retailer and all pictures etc etc

Inaccurate listing. Badly polished lugs and crown guards. I would accept no less than a full refund.

being that you have other threads regarding other used watches you bought online, you might look for your closest AD and spend a little more money...... you gotta pay to play

What kind of paperwork did you receive with the watch? Any service records? I'd reach out to the seller asap, like others have as well.

I wouldn’t be too hasty here.

Let’s look at what we have. If you purchased a tritium dial, then if they’ve used a stock photo for the advert, that’s not what they’ve sent you.

The dial is a replacement instead of the Tritium dial which means the hand set is likely a service replacement as well. Nothing wrong with that, unless of course you specifically wanted a tritium dial watch? I think the dial and hands are fine.

As for polishing, the watch has clearly been ‘buffed’ all over. To be expected of a watch of this age. The crown guard below the crown itself looks as if it’s been thinned slightly more than the upper crown guard, but it’s difficult to tell from the pictures. Also, a pic of the rear of the watch will show how thin the lugs have become at their tips which will give a better idea how much of the case has been ‘buffed’ away.

If you send this watch to RSC, they will polish, mill and refinish the case using a jig, which will restore the proportions of the case no problem and likely add slight bevels as well.

I don’t feel this watch is a disaster, it’s a nice piece, but it may not be what you ordered?

Maybe some wiggle room for a re-imbursement of some $ from the seller, which you could put towards a full RSC service?

What do you want to do with it?

Below is my 2003 pictured fresh back from RSC last year. I had the dial replaced and the handset, as well as a new crown, bezel insert and crystal. It looks like the day it was new.

Good Call, hope this works out for you. I wouldn't be happy, it seems like they sent you a completely different watch than you purchased..
