Shockingly some folks just consider them to be a watch.

Why would you want a watch you can't live life in?

I know a buddy who tosses his into his golf bag with his balls when he hits the course. No pelican case, no velvet gloves, no coffin, etc... why? It's a watch, if it can't live up to some golf balls why does he want it?

Very active in the off road / overland world and folks run out and buy 200 series Land Cruisers to play in the woods? Why not an old Jeep?

My father has a datejust, has had it since the 80's - mows the yard in it, swims in it, plays golf in it, etc... to him it's just a watch. Irony is that he wears "fancy watch" mom got him for dress up events - a nice $500 Seiko cause it is gold and has a leather strap....and mom got it for him

It’s called taking care of your stuff…some people abuse stuff, and some don’t. It’s like driving a corvette on the same terrain as you would jeep wrangler….

Sure there is abuse and there is honest use.

We all do it to some extent, usually when new - but once I started wearing the watch and it not wearing me - my enjoyment and appreciation of it grew tremendously.

From engine bay, to beach, to office, to bath-time for the kids, to the pool, etc... then you have lived with the watch (whatever brand) and it is truly your companion in life. This is why folks really love their "beater" watch - whatever it may be, it's usually what you have on when doing fun things.

For example, my 16610, I feel it looks better today than when it was all mint. Trust me I take care of my stuff and a huge believer in preventive maintenance - hell PM is what puts food on my table and a roof over our heads.

That said honest wear is a beautiful thing. Some of us are more active than others. Some of us want a Rolex for various reasons. Some see them as simply a watch, others as status symbol, but I see them for their origins - tool watches that can truly go further than their owners.

Still of the camp that if I could get a sterile dial sub - I'd be all over it. I could care less if it said Rolex or not - they created and built a spec of watch that I want.

ETA: Hunting for a new 124060 to "live in"

Not all of you but a good amount of you are just to funny.

Yes, it's a GMT, an almost 50 year old GMT. That was until I had it recased, dialed and new bracelet over 10 years ago.

No matter if I was flying, driving, watching TV or even sitting on the toilet I could still wear a GMT watch that would just tell time. I'm going to say 95% of the people here are not diving with their Subs, flying a plane with their GMT's or exploring with their Explorers. IT'S A WATCH!!!. Relax a bit.

No it's not to tight as I explained before. My wrist was bent backwards to give that look as if it was strangling my wrist.

Yes, I was fixing my sprinkler line. I'm having a new patio installed and I needed to move some sprinkler lines and the GMT was the one that I happened to have on yesterday. Now if it was my Royal Oak; that's a totally different story.

Wear them and enjoy them.

The GMT was supposed to be worn when travelling to different time zones. Not ripping up pavements

However, each to their own. You could be ripping up a pavement in a different time zone to your home destination, in which case, good on you

I may be in the minority here. I choose to have wrist presence. I work hard for what I own so I like to take care of it. Doesn't run my life though. Nothing wrong with the other way also.

If it was a few $100 it would be a tool watch. Rolex no longer makes tools watches given most are over 10K. I wouldn't even wear my Apple Watch for this job. But then again its his watch he can wear it how he pleases :)

Actually it was meant to be worn by Pan Am pilots in the 1950's.

Nope. I wear my watches give or take all the time. And not banging into things has become second nature so my watches look pretty pristine and I like it that way. And yeah, for a plumbing project or whatever my wife makes me do I still take it off. For some activities I rather put my Apple watch on. I don’t think that makes me any less manly. And yeah, I’m a pencil pusher so watches are safe during work hours.

Guys, it's a tool watch. What you can't see at this angle is that his pinky was just cut off and the GMT is saving the day with the little known "tourniquet complication".
