Rolex GMT Warranty??

I'm really close to buying my first Rolex. It will be a BLNR or a LN GMT either new or very lightly used. I will buy it from a trusted seller here on the forum.

How important is the 5 year Rolex warranty? Does anyone ever have to use the Rolex warranty? Is it worth the extra money to have a watch under warranty vs. the same watch not under warranty?

Thanks for your input-

Rolex GMT Warranty??

Basic service is $700 at a RSC. It’s a big plus for reselling, but if you’re keeping it long term it’s not as important as purchase price. You might not even need to service the watch within 5 years of the manufacture date, in which case the warranty is moot.

It's only important if it's important to you. In 40 years and 30 watches I have only used the warranty once for regulation on an Exp II. Even then, a regulation is cheap if I had to pay.

I would not buy any expensive complicated item without a warranty. The warranty protects you from an infant mortality problem and provides a degree of assurance that the item isn’t a fake or contains bogus parts.

I felt comfortable in the fact I was given a 5 year warranty when I bought my new watch.

There was some talk on here about some earlier GMT LNs having movement issues so a later revision plus the half decade warranty was good for me.

Plus being newer means Ive got more time before it will need servicing which my AD rightly or wrongly said would be 10 years from date of purchase.

I wouldn't pay much extra for the warranty, but it's nice to have. I got my GMT regulated under warranty. Not getting the warranty is always a gamble, but the odds that you'll need it are pretty small.

I’ve had 3 Of the last 6 go back for one thing or another. All under warranty. One was a GMT loosing 20 seconds every 24 hours. That watch was 6 months past the two year warranty (at the time). Rolex performed a courtesy movement overhaul. For me, a warranty is a must.

I’ll second that. I have had two go in to RSC for warranty issues. BUT when I buy preowned I will factor in the cost of a service if not under warranty or sellers warranty.

Do bear in mind that the warranty does not give you absolute protection. If the watch has been damaged, or the movement has been subjected to a shock (which you may not be able to tell from examining the exterior), the warranty will not cover this
