A Datejust with a rotating bezel is what is known as a Turnograph, also called a Thunderbird. Google will turn up some info.

The Turn O Graph dates back to 1953 the forerunner of the Sub.

It is a beauty, for sure. As for your question, not sure...but may have had something to do with the appearance of the DJ2. Perhaps there will be a 41mm version come along this year or the next?

This model was worn by Todd Beamer on Flight 93 when they overtook the highjackers. The remains of his watch are on display in the 9/11 memorial museum.

The Datejust Turnograph in its last iteration was produced from around 2004 to 2010/11 if I recall correctly. It came in SS with a white gold bezel as well as two tone versions with a gold bezel, and various dial color choices including slate, blue and white in the SS versions.
Here is my SS/WG slate dial :

Does your bezel rotate? I am asking because I tried one on earlier that I am thinking about buying, but the bezel did not rotate. I know it is called turn-o-graph for a reason so it most likely needs cleaning. It is real, I checked box and papers with serial numbers etc.

I told current owner that the bezel should turn hence the name turn-o-graph. He said that he doesn't remember it ever turning. So maybe since he never turned it for 10 years, it's stuck. I don't know.

I would hold it under the tap, with warm running water, and gently try to work it back and forth.
I think those are one of the nicest looking Rolexes.

OP, You appear to have a 90s 16264 which is the Turn-o-Graph version of the 16234 SS/YG Datejust. Reference numbers from the 60s onward are 1625, 16250, 16263, 16264 (white gold), 116263, and 116264 (white gold).

Get a guitar pick, it makes popping the bezel off easy. Clean everything and maybe even go over ring with fine steel wool, clean and reassemble.

Here is my D serial (2006). It was never very popular but did have a cult following. It is also the watch that some argue led to the Submariner. I love mine with the Everose gold and brown color tones with jubilee.

Quite recently late 2013 early 2014 there was a very limited special run of the TOG {Turnograph} for the Japanese market only just 600 units in total 300 white dial 300 black dial. But will they become collectible well IMHO its doubtful but who knows in the future market the TOG has a long history with Rolex the first sub was basically a converted TOG 6204 or 6205..

Yeah, actually the one worn by Todd Beamer that is on display is a linen dialed version likes Marks below.

When I went to the memorial last year I asked the security associate at the door in front of Ladder 3...the fire truck that was crushed by debris, how I could locate Todd Beamer's watch. She got on her earpiece, and within moments a gentleman approached me and said Sir...your trying to locate Mr. Beamer's Rolex? As I nodded, he said please follow me! He then escorted me through the memorial abd directly to his watch.

yours is 16263 and based on no lug holes... and based on the white dial stick roman...
your watch is probably 1995 or newer. To get date of watch...remove the Lug end and see the serial number...the 1st letter will narrow down the year. You can search online for key words "serial number, letter, and rolex and date"

someone earlier posed that it was a 16264...which would be not correct as the 16264 was all SS/WG . the 16263 is SS/YG two tone.

Had that same model 'cept with a S-Jubilee. I would love to, and will, replace it someday! The shape and color of the second band alone is a showstopper! (IMO)
Great piece sir!

Hey Mark P,

I remember seeing yours here, and commenting on it. Nicest version IMHO.
