Jonesing for a 16710 Coke

Ive been researching 16710s for a few months now and watching prices. They do not seem to have come down as others slightly have. Ideally a 3186 but I'm not into paying 15 to 20K for one. Thinking mid F series 3185 maybe in the 10k to 13K price range. Not sure I really care too much about SEL va Non SEL. Is there really anything I should be concerned about with an "older" non 3816 version of this watch?

I acquired a 1991 coke last year...all tritium no glow, love it with the original faded bezel. I switch from jubilee to oyster every so often when I need a change.

No, pre 3186 they all had the 3185 movement, which is good and reliable (more reliable than the 3186 actually). The older ones (pre 99/2000) will have tritium and not luminova and will discolor with time as you probably already know. Then all the usual stuff, bracelet stretch, case condition, etc. Good luck, it’s a great watch

I got one almost a year ago. I got a like new D serial, no holes, SEL 16710 black bezel insert, box but no papers from Bernard’s Watches. Paid 10k. I then purchased a Coke bezel insert from the RSC here in Manhattan while keeping the original black insert. Cost me about $150. Love the watch to death.
My advice is to focus on getting the best possible shape watch you can and not worrying about the insert color or whether it’s a full set. A year ago the black bezels seemed to be priced a little lower. While prices haven’t necessarily come down, I think you’ll have more negotiating room now.

^ Agree with the statement above, get the watch with the best condition. But I’m partial to the early 2000s with SEL but with hole case.

I like the way you think! I have been drooling over the 16710 coke lately also. Would round out my modest collection nicely! Happy hunting.

Went through exactly the same process last year. After much research I decided I wanted a 16710. Didn’t mind what colour bezel as that’s an easy swap but wanted no holes and full set. I spent months researching models and prices. Eventually I managed to bag a beauty, 2005 full set and as new condition with black bezel. Promptly took it in to the RSC for a Coke bezel swap, kept the original bezel.
My advice is the same as others have said. Decide what age range you want and buy on condition from a trusted source.
Good luck with your search

I bought a D serial Coke ( US version so it says its a Coke on the papers ) in 2009 or so for $4,000 USD. Bought a Pepsi bezel a few months later and it's been a Pepsi ever since. A few years later, I put it on a Jubilee...and yes, you guessed it, it's been on ever since.

A great watch!

Id post pics but mine are always too big...it was full set boxes and papers. Traded for it and came out to around 10....which is fine with me because it’s all original and hopefully the tritium will start to cream up real soon!!

Thanks. I haven't tried ole Bernard yet. He's local for me too.

Just got the jubilee from RSC Dallas in March. Right before the madness began.

Here is the real deal.... In the 90's it was called junk..
now its faded... and its loved again.

I love wearing this..
3185

3185 vs 3186 your wrist will never know the difference...
I promise... you will catch your flight wearing either...

unless your doing the overhaul yourself... you will not know the difference...

what 3 parts changed... no difference

Just find yourself a clean full set early 2000 era 16710 for $11k or so & you will be set. SEL/Luminova w holes is the way to go IMO.

The few early 3186s on the 16710 and 16570 had some issues, so I would advise against them, particularly given the premium over the 3185.

Now, I would not concern myself much with little details if you have no strong feelings between holes/no-holes cases, tritium vs (s)luminova, SEL vs no-SEL, etc.
I would just hunt for the best possible example regardless of the rest. Personally I prefer holes cases (somewhat easier to evaluate condition) and tritium dials (for the old-school allure) but they all are wonderful.

I had a GMT Coke with box and papers. I got £1500 for it in a trade for a Sub Date without box and papers in 2006.

Regrets. I have a few. But then again, too few to mention...

The 3186 has been very over hyped on the net,in the real world the 3185 is a fantastic movement. There were a few problems with the early 3186 which the 3185 never had,and in the real world the only difference is the hand slack. On the 3185 for one full crown turn the second time zone hand with jump around 5 hours. On the 3186 around 8 hours and thats about it, I would choose a 3185 every time over a 3186.As for the SEL bracelets they started from 2000 on as for the inserts they are quite easy to change yourself cost around $75 per insert get all 3 and have 3 different watches for the price of one, the 16710 is a very versatile watch.

It’s hard to understand the hype about these. They are incredibly easily had, a massive amount made, and the prices are just not something I would pay. That said, I love the 5 digits and think they balanced form and function perfectly.

I also have a hankering for a coke. I've found a couple i really like,Swiss dial, full set, but they are around £11k which i feel is a bit pricey. The other thing is i have had my name down for about 18 months for a BLRO at a couple of AD's I've purchased from and if i should get the call I can't afford both. So do I buy the coke and enjoy it now or save the money and wait for a call that might not come for another 18 months

If you could afford both I would totally different pieces and the 16710 has so many faces and will only go up in price over time. Happy Hunting
