First Pen (Montblanc) Help!

Hello everyone, I'm trying to decide on my first nice pen purchase and have been looking through all the models on the montblanc website. I believe the best pen for me and everyday use would be a rollerpen.

It seems like the safe bet would be the Meisterstück Platinum LeGrand but I notice that it only takes blue/black ink and I would like something with a little more variety.

To me, one of the best looking pens in the current collection is the Bohème Doué Moongarden

Does anyone know if this is a unisex pen? I would hate to purchase this pen and it turns out to be the ladies datejust of the pen world

I have contacted a lot of boutiques near me and of course since it is such a limited and unique one none of them have one in stock to look at it. One said they could order one for me and I may take them up on that. Would I be able to negotiate a discount like with watches? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can't offer much help and no help when the subject is roller balls but the Bohemes are generally considered as appropriate for men or women. The pattern reminds me of Nakaya's Housage pattern.

Some years ago I was at a store in Connecticut when a young Oriental boy approached a sales lady and asked her in very rudimentary English if the wallet in display was bisexual. Of course, the lady picked up what he meant, and said: yes, it is unisex.

A friend once said he was ambisexual. Was never quite sure about that one.

The Bohme is a nice pen for both men and women.

I have two of them and they are really unique examples of an uncommon Montblanc pen.

Wow, those are stunning! Thank you so much, I wanted to make sure. I just placed an order, not sure if it will arrive before Christmas but will post pictures once it does.

Yes. Any of the Bohemes I would consider uni-sex. And I would definitely carry the one your are looking at.

Perfect, I'm so excited for it to arrive! One other question I thought of... What is the shelf life like for the rollerball refills? I would like to order a variety of colors but maybe I should just order maybe two for now if they tend to dry out after a year.

You bring up the only objection to MB rollers that I have. Their refills are very short lived and in my experience they begin to skip after only a day or so of writing. And they are expensive!

I would find a substitute refill. The pens are lovely. The refills are .

I have several MB Legrande rollerballs. I have the platinum, the yellow gold and the red gold. The refills do seem to not last as long as I would like and the black and blue limitation stinks.

Go on you tube and look for a tutorial video on refilling the rollerball refills. I have done this in the past and am going to start doing it again so I can get some more interesting colors.

Good point Brandon! The MB rollers can be found in generics. I have even seen them in gels.

Just take your empty and go to the office supply and see what you can find.

Yafa is the name that always comes up when you look for aftermarket gel refills for MB rollerball. But a blunt tip needle and some bulk ink works well too. Just pop the plastic cap off of the cartridge, load a little over 1/2ml ink in a syringe and inject into the cotton on the refill. Done.

I haven't tried that, but I don't see any reason why that end cap can't be worked off and then use a syringe to put more MB ink in the refill. Thanks for that suggestion. I even have 3 MB refills that I purchase about 5 years ago that are dry now. Going to give that a try.

Gonna give that at try this weekend.

You can get these on Ebay for a few dollars.

I have a Meisterstück LeGrand Platinum Rollerball and would say this is an excellent first pen! It gets a lot more use than my 149.

Surely (as lovely as it would be to have multiple colours) 99% of what you write will be in blue or black anyway?

Thank you all for your help and tips! My pen just arrived today and I love it. Here is a quick pic I took with my phone at work. The pen looks stunning in person. I'll try to get some better pics once I get caught back up on everything now that the holidays are over.

I refill my rollerballs and have had great success. I use a syringe and Montblanc ink. The result is great.

Wow! That pen looks better in your photo than the MB photo.

That is a lovely piece!
