16520 Advice please

Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times but im looking for an early 16520 and found this '91 N series from a UK collector.

1991, white dial , N series, inverted 6s on a 78360/503

I think I can get it for around £11500/$14000

Do you guys think in todays market that's fair value? It looks ok to me.

Any thoughts and help is most appreciated. thanks

Does it have any extras? Box or papers or serviced receipt?

Hi Rootbeer, no Sir, watch only. The seller does offer a 10 day return period.

I know you should always buy the best you can.. but decent fullset invert 6s are hard to find. Would you recommend waiting?

At £11.5k I thought it looked ok...

thanks for your help.

Personally I wouldn't pay the prices that are being asked for these but that said it looks to be in the right range - I have noticed that prices on 16520s appear to have increased rapidly in the last few months so I guess they are unlikely to get any cheaper!!

Hi Woody, yes i agree... i think if you want in you just need to pay up. I own a few vintage Speedies so i am aware how quickly things can go up in value.

I was looking a bit harder last year for a 16520 and they seem to have popped up 20-25% if remember correctly.

Will it be a case of thinking how cheap they were at £12k in 5 years time, who knows!

Thanks for your post.

I'd want to squeeze price a little. Looks good though.

16520s were selling for 9 to 10k usd 1 year ago. I bought one from HQ for $9200 at that time. 14k is high to me.

Seems steep to me, as well, but it's hard to tell: when things come into fashion and there's a demand, the prices rise. I paid less for mine, but that was nearly 2 years ago.

I've noticed the bump in price too, I wonder if the market has sprung up due to the unavailability of the ceramic daytona for many, so they are buying the 16520 in the mean time or instead. While the 16520 was never top of my list, it did interest me but not at the current prices.

I agree the prices are higher.. but you can't find decent 16520s for the price they were 1-2 years ago, not as far as i can see anyway.

if anyone has or knows of a decent one coming up, please shoot me a mail. Preference is early 90s inverted 6.

Cheers guys.

No i agree....it is nuts, but we are all nuts aren't we ?? And they're not making any more of them! So from what i can see.... approx current asking prices are,

mid/late 90s 16520 $10k/$13k
early 90s invert 6 $13k-16k
Patrizzi $17k/25k

B/P add 1k-2k and early rare dials/bezels add $5k/+25k

This is only a guide as to what i've seen in the last month or so after looking a bit deeper.

If i'm wrong these are only my opinions... please correct me if I am.

thanks again.

I think its in the eye of the beholder, For me going to auctions and seeking the right watch has turned into a life time achievement. One of the last auctions I attended I saw a W serial with box and papers BNIB sell for $16.5K.

For me its just about finding the right one and know what your looking for. The deals on these are drying up.
