Any chance of an aquanaut Chronograph?
Just wondering what the chances of an aquanaut Chronograph are. Would this be uncharacteristic for PP? Seems like it would fit in the collection well.

I'd say there is a chance, and it's been a few years since the 5164 came out... But who knows?

It is possible as the Aquanaut celebrates its 20th birthday this year.
My guess is that Patek wants to keep the Aquanaut fairly simple and keep it as the more "entry level" sports watch and add the complications to the Nautilus. However if they added the chrono function into the Aquanaut case, it will certainly receive some interest. |

I don't see why not - there are lots of variations on the Nautilus, and already a travel time Aquanuat. Certainly possible.

I think there's a fair chance, especially once the 5980 is fully phased out.

I can see one coming out but price will be horrendous I'm sure as they usually are on these apart from the ss 5167.

Could be, but I doubt it as with the nautilus they moved away from a standard chrono and coupled it to the travel time movement. Unless they reintroduce the nautilus chrono with a different layout...

With the watch industry struggling it maybe time for Patek to make an less expensive Aquanaut. Exchange the solid gold rotor for steel one... and price it near high end Rolex steel prices...13k Ish...
Vacheron has some nice stuff at this price range.... |

No chance of that happening – brand cachet dilution would result from such a move. Besides which, I’m not aware of Patek struggling to shift their current production output of Aquanauts, much less the rest of the full range of models they make. As for the original question posed – similarly no chance of that coming to fruition, for much the same reason as above. |

I think it makes sense. A lot more sense than the 5164 to me. But what do I know.

I would like to see one in a different metal - like titanium with a navy face.
But before that happens, I think we will see a chrono version. May have my attention if under $35k. |

A titanium Aquanaut would be great but i think no chance, patek made Ti watches for charity in the past i think. So its quite rare and will never be a regular prod. Imho.
Regarding the chrono complication i think its possible im just curious on the layout. Will it be a two register or a bulls eye chrono? Hmm.. |

Won't happen. And Vacheron's sales have been weak, Pateks aren't.

Have to disagree with you on this one Tom. A rubber strap dual time is the perfect travel watch. It can handle the heat and the pool better than any other steel or leather strapped dual time imo.

Completely agree with you on that...simply playing devils advocate. The 5164 looks odd to me personally. There are other pateks or APs I'd get beforehand

I would love a no date 5167 btw....but that would be so un-Patek I was referring to the fact that I think the aquanaut, being the sporty Patek, deserves a chronograph, which to me exudes a sporting vibe. I realize that's mostly nonsense but sporty chronos are a big market after all. |

If Patek release an Aquanaut chrono, pricing will likely be over $40K USD, possibly closer to $45K, considering the 5980/1A was ~ $50K USD.
The real question is - will people pay that much for an Aqunaut chrono? I don't see many people willing to pay $50K USD for a 5164R, although an Aquanaut chrono in SS may be more popular. |

No, it needs to be priced around $35k to be competitive, and definitely less than 40.
A 5164 is what, low 30's MSRP? Then if they build an aquanaut travel time chrono combo, push it into the 40's. If you consider the 5726 is mid $40s and the 5990 is low $50s, all the stars would align with the most complicated aquanaut right there below/at 5726. If they actually build it and price too high, will be in Natulius territory. All prices ref steel. |

Don't see why not, it would definitely be a hit seeing as how some people see the 5167 as sort of whimpy. A chrono would give it more heft
