What do you do with your boarding pass after you've boarded?

Learned something new.

I always shred everything with personal info on, including baggage tags. What you can't avoid is all the personal info the Airline has and routinely throws away.

Ever requested a seat and had the check in girl struggle with the computer system, print a boarding pass and baggage tag, trash them and print new ones?

It's scary what I've seen in the trash.

I know, today's education isn't what it used to be. If they don't know the airspeed of an unladen African swallow then how will they calculate the speed of two swallows carrying a coconut on a line strung between them?

I always keep them for a week, and once I make sure my frequent flier points are posted to my account, I shred them.

What a weird website...there's not much of anything about luxury or glamour if you look at the main page. Dreadful writing, too...

"All your personal information is on it"
-Then shows how almost none of your personal information is on it ...
I would be more worried about what the airline does with their printed copies of the passenger seat that would be more useful I would think somebody looking to go rob your home while you're on vacation. Start with everyone first class and work your way down.

Wow I had no idea. I tend to get my boarding pass on my mobile phone ( have for many years now).

Poor use of Social media is probably also something to think about when you travel.

True enough - few personal details beyond one's name.

I took a recent Delta pass out of my iPhone's wallet and scanned just the QR code.

Here is what it decoded (without using any hacker code)...

My full name, my trip code, flight #, flight time and FF# was decoded .

Then an encrypted string was shown that Delta uses for some purpose. The last part can't be decoded without access to Delta's back office systems. Sure, that can be hacked but not as easily as scanning a boarding pass with an App.

I suppose someone could use my name & FF# to attempt accessing my account and charge new tickets - but that would mean getting past my existing password. Enlightened by the story but no new worries - the checked baggage tags prolly have same info, too.

That really doesn't show much information other than what an gate agent can pull up with your PNR. ANy paper information is stored then destroyed after a few months in compliance with the FAA.
This isn't anything to worry about.

Ditto. Also how and why could it have your banking info on the barcode? And who prints their boarding passes nowadays! Pretty bad bait click imho.

The story ran back in December on WTSP in Tampa, then was picked up by USA Today Travel. So that website the OP found was just linking to the original story.
No claims your bank info is in the QRcode - it's your FF# that can be exposed. If your password is weak, and you have your CC stored for one-click ticket purchase, then you could lose a few $$$ temporarily (until you file a fraud claim).

Educate me. What on Earth could a crook obtain from your boarding pass which would facilitate theft?

Agree potential for low lying fruit, but combined with more sophisticated hacking I imagine some identity theft could result? ID theft is a pain even if not costly.

Also been told discarded electronic/magnetic hotel keys present similar problems.

I'm Just passing on a detail that I hadn't considered... I am usually more aware.
