Rolex Daytona Patrizzi?

Having bought my first Rolex, a ND Sub recently, I have the itch to buy another. I have been offered what has been advertised as a Patrizzi Daytona for a little less than a 116500 ceramic by a reputable local jeweler. The jeweler says he has compared the watch to another black Daytona and the Sub dials have definitely browned. The watch is on a 'U' serial.

I have done some reading on the net (this forum in particular) and some suggest a 'U' serial cannot be a Patrizzi and others say it can. I also believe Rolex has a track record of manufacturing watches and releasing/allocating serial numbers later.

So, 3 questions as I will be going to see the watch in person next week. I recognise ithat is difficult to comment without pics:

- can a U serial be a Patrizzi
- what should I be looking for in the watch - how brown should the subdial's be, etc (difficult to quantify I know)
- what would be a reasonable price to pay?

I am aware tge Patrizzi effect is a manufacturing defect and not all will see the value or would pay for it, but I like to collect slightly unusual things.

Any "reputable" dealer is not going to offer you an authentic Patrizzi dial Daytona for less than a modern day Sub.

Box, papers. Doesn't matter.

Too good to be true then it is.

He is offering it for a little less than a ceramic Daytona 116500LN to be clear.

I like the idea of a Patrizzi more than the new example. My guess is it should be significantly less for the Patrizzi though from my understanding. You may want to also look for the "inverted 6" dials as well as they are becoming more collectible and I think are as rare as the Patrizzi.

Correct, I was referring to the 116500 the modern day dayton a, not the sub. The real question is whether it is a real Patrizzi and what the ball park calue would be. I will look into the inverted 6
