HELP>>> GMT Master ii winder and hands malfunction...Advice?

Hopefully someone on this forum can explain a problem and the suggest best way to proceed.

I have owned a 2009 GMT Master ii since new and it has been worn and loved every day since.

Yesterday I went to wind it and set the date and the 2nd position hack function did not engage as usual; instead, it simply turned the hour hand smoothly to the hour.

When I tried to set the time via the third position the hands turned but when I pushed the crown in it would reset back to the previous hour each time it was pulled out and pushed back in.

Before proceeding to get this seen to does anyone know what it happening to my watch and would you get a repair or send it in for a full service?

Is it a serious issue and can it be successfully repaired?

I know this may be a less than knowledgeable question, but I am a wearer of the watch and know nothing of repairs or the seriousness of issues with a watch.

I can't help but have dark thoughts that it will never be the same.

Thank you all for understanding....

Inherent flaw in the 3186. I can't speak to it personally, but I've heard Rolex has repaired a number of these outside of the warranty period as good will.

Nine years after the warranty ended and six years after the first ‘recommended’ service interval I wouldn’t hold my breath for a free repair.

My advice is to avoid anybody that offers to ‘repair’ this without servicing it.
