Some differences in style are fairly easy to see between the various boot makers as other details it wouldn’t hurt to have a look at Styleforum as most have their own threads and you can discover a number of things to include hints on sizing as well.

Vibergs are considered more of a fashion boot where detail is more of a consideration where Whites and Nicks being more of a work boot. Nicks being one of the most solid boots your money can buy and the break in being a reflection of that.

Viberg it is. Looking at it now and really like the service boots in waxed Kudu. That's exactly the look I am going for.

I have shoes by Crockett & Jones, John Lobb (not of Pall Mall) and Edward Green of Jermyn St. london but Edward Green for sure IMO are the best for comfort, quality of leather and workmanship. Expensive yes! But I always regret it when I buy elsewhere!

The Alden Indy boot. Thats all you will need. I have 2 pair, the ones with the leather sole and the other with the thick rubber and both as as comfortable as sneakers.

Same here with a few others as well. I consider Edward Green and Gaziano & Girling to be my favorites and to be fairly equal in all aspects.

Galways are my overall favorite boot.

Damn. This thread just cost me a grand. I have a pair of Whites that I love but they are a little on the heavy side. Based on a comment in here I checked out Oak Street and just bought two pairs. I’m 6’4” so don’t like (or need) boots with thick soles. The Oak Street look like they hit the mark for lower profile and comfort. Guess I’ll find out soon!

@Dan, I have a pair of Allen Edmond boots that have formed a nasty crease over the toes after a few wears. I’ve pretty much signed them off, but was curious if theirs any tricks to help re-shape/remove the crease. I assume no, but thought it was worth an ask.

Placing shoe trees in your shoes typically will help to prevent this sort of thing. Probably the best I could suggest at this point would be applying conditioner such as Bick 4 on them and using shoe trees. Shoe cream might help soften the leather.

Although I don't have Kudu on any this style of boots I do have it on a couple pair of my G&G's both boots and shoes.

Agree that’s a great boot. My issue is not with the boot itself, but rather that they now ask $600 for it, which pushes you close to the Viberg price point

To clarify you mean you believe that you should have to condition and polish new shoes the minute you get them?

Not true. The truth is more that you want to condition and polish as needed. Doesn't mean I won't do it, but I only do it when the shoes or boots need it and that is rather rare when I find I need to do it when I first get a pair of shoes or boots. Typically that's the case only when I wish to apply a spit shine or as some call it a bull shine then I have applied polish to a new pair of shoes and even then I only apply what is necessary and typically on a good pair of shoes it doesn't take much.

Also there are a good number of shoes I will condition and rarely polish as I only apply polish or conditioner when necessary. Overuse is just that overuse and there certainly can be as you only need to apply when needed. Because some shoes, boots, and leathers don't really need that much polish and conditioning is more in line with what they need.

Do keep in mind however that a conditioner such as Bick 4 will help prevent water spots. If I knew I were wearing a pair of shoes or boots in the rain it wouldn't hurt to apply a bit of conditioner if you have not yet.

I saw a video of Kirby Allison saying to apply them to new Allen Edmonds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65sSrdbt2eM) and I was curious if Viberg boots would need a similar treatment. I'll apply when needed though and if I wear them in the rain. Thanks for the tips!

I do treat my boots and shoes at the beginning of every winter. Saphir for most but Obenauf’s oil for the foul weather boots. Obenauf’s does darken most leathers but it’s weather protection is outstanding.

I have three pair in my closet and find it hard to wear anything else, including my Edward Green and Crocket & Jones.

The last pair I bought were the Turnout model which has the rounded toe. I get comment on those all the time. Especially when people can see they are not just cowboy boots.

Also, Edward Greens 82 last fit beautifully if you don't mind the price.

Some Allen Edmonds lasts like the classic shoe 62 also fit very well. They have a boot variant (511) last that may work. However, I still find AE’s quality to be hit or miss to the extent that I never order online. I bought a pair of Higgins Mill last season (sized down 1/2 size) and it took three pairs to find a perfect stitched toe detail.

The 82 from Edward Green and off the top of my head the MH71 from G&G are the best fitting lasts I own and I don’t even have narrow flat feet. Just so happens the price currently is probably the best it’s been for awhile now.

I just purchased a pair on Stonington boots from L.L Bean. Right out the box, there comfortable, and very light. I like them better, than my Thursday President boots.
