I'm happy that you have found what makes you happy!

BUT! Here comes the opinion:

I think you will regret this (unless you need the money). Nothing against the black Sub, but it's a dime a dozen. Don't let TRF fool you - you don't see too many BLNR's and LV's in the wild, and I think having watches like those two is pretty special. Replacing either with a plain vanilla Sub is taking a step backwards to me; I would hate to see someone wearing a BLNR or LV (Hulk in my case) while I was wearing a Sub, knowing that I had the former but got rid of it.

Again, just my opinion but there's no way I would do it - unless money was an issue.

I love Pittsburgh. It is growing, tech meds and education, beautiful and easy living. All that said, Rolex isn’t even on the radar. So I don’t see any Rolex in the wild. That doesn’t bother me. I worry most about parting with the SubLV, it is a great contrast of green to black, it is beautiful. Just not a one and only. The BLNR is also beautiful, but Rolex needs to fix the lugs. I said this previously, all I see is lugs sometimes. The blue is awesome, but again not my one and only choice. I am going back to basics and can build from there. Also - a HUGE point, my son is now 13 and has opinions about this. The black sub date is by far his favorite and it will be his someday. I will get some gold DD or something down the road, but it is all I “need” right now.

I'm surprised you say you don't see too many BLNRs in the wild, especially because you are very well traveled (love your pictures BTW). I've seen quite a few of them, in fact I think it's the sports model I've seen most after the Sub.

Thank you!

After the Sub, it's Daytonas for me - both ceramic and not, which is interesting. Very rarely do I see GMTs of any color...those are the ones I get excited for!

When I do travel, very limited, I see a couple of datejusts, black subs and pre-ceramic Daytonas. But like literally 7 of them in 15 years. I saw an older Pepsi locally once, it was like seeing a living dinosaur I was so excited.

I'm down to one after a number of years with multiples and chose to go with the Sub Date. It covers the bases for me and everything else was just sitting in the box. Gotta have a few beaters though too on the inexpensive side.

Great to hear! I am about to be there. Was thinking of an Apple Watch (I know) and looking at a couple of omegas, but think I will be done until the next big one. Going after a SS collection is rough.

I appreciate your honesty and bravery. Remember at least it is a Rolex, if not one of the bottom of the line models. Non-watch people won’t know. You should start a go-fund-me page. Be well.

Why do you find faults in them?

You've had quite a few great watches that are the kind of watches someone could buy one of and wear for the rest of their life? Every watch in this poll could fill that role?

For one and only I crave something pops, either a cyclops, or pcl, or bicolor bezel or even a colored text or a hand. BLNR would be my choice since it is the most interesting one in the poll.

I use a chrono or the timing bezel all the time, and when I travel I only care about the local time, so it’s an easy choice. I like green, but not the green sub. Ymmv.

I pretty much own most of these, (Pepsi instead of BLNR) I’d keep my GMT on jubilee.

Interesting thread with some compelling points on the pros of going with just the one sub.
I’m not there (not sure I ever will be, honestly) but respect those in the WIS community that can make that move. (Plenty of people outside of the collector community who only wear one watch, right?).

The simplicity is appealing, but immediately crushed by my love of options.

Curious: Would picking up the sub and storing your current pieces in the bank vault be an option? Out of sight, out of mind - but if you end up feeling like it wasn’t such a great idea after all, you still have your other pieces stored away.

Thought about that, great point, but I also spoke to my AD about it. I am not going to get much more or less either way. If you think about it, all these watches will get either discontinued and/or updated at some point. We also live in a time when these watches are hot items. 10 years ago they all would still be less than MSRP after retail. I really don’t think it matters. The first subLVs are not hot aftermarket. The hulk is as it is very unique. Maybe the BLNR will be, but honestly we are talking about making or losing a thousand or so, not that important to me. Owning a discontinued watch is a bit weird for me as well as I tend to be the person that likes the latest and greatest.

Hey Jesse, I hear what you are saying, but I do not believe the OP is taking a step backwards with the Sub-Date. I would have done the same thing given the choices he had and have sold off all others except the Sub before. I own a BLRO and a Sub-Date and have owned LV's, and BLNR's and consider them almost "niche" pieces compared to the "basic" Sub. A Sub is quintessential Rolex, just like a Datejust, you can't go wrong.

My current Sub-Date came from one of the Trusted Sellers as new because I couldn't source one from my local AD for quite some time. I don't know what the issue was there, but I just got tired of waiting and bit the bullet so they do not appear to be falling of trees, at least for me.

JRell, congrats on your choice and enjoy it!

Please don't stare too long at the new sub clasp if that's the case!

Truly I wish you well and hope your decision brings you peace of mind.
