Open/See through caseback on Rolex...do you like it?

I think it's kind of nice. Other brands have them. Why not Rolex? You can't see the movement when you're wearing it but it's a nice feature. Sort of like having a luxury car with a open/see through hood. Would we like to see the engine and all the moving parts without opening the hood? Can't really see what's going on while driving.... it would be a novelty though. Some people might like that.

It's ok. Rolex isn't exactly famous for pretty movements so it's kind of a moot point. Also it doesn't do any favors for those who like engravings.

Do not care for it. Rolex movements do not have the type of workmanship that would call for a see thru caseback IMO.

It is a pretty bland movement that is tarted up with a gold rotor.

IMHO I would be perfectly fine with it even if the other models got it, but there is just nothing special about it.

Not a fan. As mentioned they just put a gold rotor to spice it up a bit. I'm not aware of Rolex using an exhibition case back historically, but I suppose there is a market for it as other companies do it. Prefer the solid case back, especially on the professional models.

I prefer the clear case back. I could see Rolex moving in that direction with other models in the coming years.

Only one I know of... it's a decent finish I have to say.

Dont mind it, and it's only 1 of them. Now if they made it a regular thing on most of their watches then that would be an issue for me. But I think it's a nice touch on the platinum 60th Daytona.

If Rolex improve their finishing befitting of a clear case back then yes, it be welcomed. Presently, it’s a very rudimentary movement with some machine finishing touches.
At that price point (Platinum Daytona), one needs to look at other chronographs such as the 5172G and compare. In my opinion, it’s a no contest. The Patek finishing is way ahead of the Platinum Daytona. Why did Rolex show off their average finishing still baffles me.

From pictures it’s hard to tell. I’d like to see the movement IRL before I judge.

I’d hazard a guess that most haven’t see a Rolex movement up close and personal.

I'm sure there will be platinum Daytonas sitting in dealer cases in no time!

Typically (from my experiences) an exhibition case back has lower depth resistance values than a solid case back.

I have a few Brietlings now and none of them are exhibition case backs but have significantly higher (water) depth resistance than my other watches with exhibition case backs.

I think Rolex should have designed a good looking naked movement first and then invited us to the peep show.

It's not a deal breaker or a "must have" for me either way, but I really don't understand all the hatred of it personally.

It's on the back of the watch, so it's totally invisible when you're wearing it. And of course, no-one's forcing anyone to look at it if people find it THAT vile. And all the comments about Rolex having a workman-like level of finishing, well it's really not that bad, folks! Of course it's not hand-finished, but then neither are the parts you actually look at on a Rolex when it's on your wrist.

It's a weird feature and especially for Rolex as the movement is not overwhelming. Furthermore, I dont know anyone who makes an effort to look at the displayback - Most are excited the point of purchase and tha will also be the last time time they look at it.

Great marketing stunt

Interesting. I've heard many say the same, but doubted they've ever seen a movement in real life since well, Rolex have closed casebacks and most don't crack them open

I would like to see the Daytona in real-life anyone. Looks half decent in pictures, at least to my eye

What are the chances that Rolex ships this watch with the clear case back installed but also includes a solid platinum case back in the box as well?!?! Slim to non? Lol
