This is exciting for me. Was planning on getting a 36mm DD but this may be my next purchase. Can't wait to see them in person. Definitely wish they had a stick dial, but possibly in the future. You can always change at service time...

I think the new DD and movement are both wins. I'm interested in seeing it in person and compared to the 36 and 41. I think it'll be even harder for me to decide now as I was planning on getting a 118238 in August.

I hope there's no cyclops issues with these new DDs!

Just perfect this way. Now I'm wondering what would happen to the 36mm and 41mm DD after this is rolled out. Would it replace both, or would it replace only the DDII? Or there would be 3 different size options for the DD? That would be a bit too much IMHO, but maybe I'm just shortsighted :)

Did anyone notice the subtle quadrant-based Tapestry pattern on the dial of the WG version? That is what I am most excited about. The new movement looks great too...finally a 3-day power reserve:)

Platinum and WG are spectacular! Perfect size IMHO, I love the fact that this oversize watches mania seems to be finally over.

Well you can always pick up a Masterpiece! I think these are discontinued now, though (pic by Watch Chest):

I guess they're finally giving an option to people who like Romans but complain about the "XI" being cutoff.

Pretty nice looking...wonder if they've done anything to address the lack of micro adjustments in the clasp? Are there technical details out yet?

According to the Rolex site, it appears that the DDII has been dropped in favor of the DD40, which is a good think in my mind, although, It's not likely I'll ever have the opportunity to own one.

Dang. This might make me jump into modern. Ive always thought the 42 too bulky in appearance. Love the new size.

If that is true, the DDII (especially the plat ones) have some chances to become collectible down the road.

The proportions. Specifically that bezel.

There must have been people asking for it. This one looks like a President again.

I think aesthetically the 40mm day date is perfect although 39mm may have been better. The 41mm day date is just far too big and the 36mm is a little small for many people.

I would own one if it was reasonably priced
Also the roman pattern on the WG/YG just looks confusing as already said.

My new grail. I've tried on the DDII a number of times and it's just not right for me. Who knew 1mm could make such a difference, maybe my wife is right about an inch.

I was plesantly shocked when I visited the Rolex website earlier this morning. Did not have the chance to view the rest of the new releases. My focus was on the Day-Date 40.

It is great there is a new movement and where else to use it other than the Day-Date. The pictures on the website do reflect a better balance in appearance when compared tothe Day-Date II. Personally, I thought the Day-Date II looked fine, but many others did not. But when the DD 40 and DD II are compared, I feel the DD 40 just looks a little more balanced. This does beg the question if the life span of the DD II are now numbered. It would seem a little redundant to have three DD models and two of which that are simply 1mm apart in size.

I am extremely excited to see what other dial combinations they have available for the DD 40. The new line up looks really nice and I really like the new style roman numeral dial. Hopefully they are able to carry over the beautiful chocolate roman dial from the DD II 218235. That one is too beautiful to be left behind, if the DD II is indeed discontinued.

Can't wait to see these in the metal, so to say. I still think the 36mm size of the Day-Date is classic and will always be around, but would love to see the difference in size and proportions when the DD and DD 40 can be compared side-by-side.

Agree that 39mm would of been better. 40mm does look better that 41mm though and that new movement looks great.

I'd be pretty annoyed if I'd bought a DDII recently.

I bought my DJII not long ago and as soon as an OP 39 with the right dial shows up at my local AD, it's out of here.
