Google is worthless

Has anyone noticed in the past year that google search has become worthless? Pages and pages deep of only ad related results with zero organic results in sight. Absolutely useless search engine anymore. I searched “Rolex gaining time in certain positions”. First 10 pages were either completely unrelated or ads for watch companies. I don’t want to buy a service from someone I just want to $&@%#* get an answer to my question from an organic source. Sorry rant over.

P score (probability that a searchers intent matches content) is less and less weighted.

Trust algorithms are gain more and more important.

I have been upset with that for much longer than a year. First there wasn’t enough information, then there was a lot of incorrect, not-properly-cited information, then it was optimized maybe 10 years ago or so (my experience), then it has mostly been all about advertising and data mining the last 10 years or so. I have heard that duck duck go is decent, but I haven’t tried it...

Try using Adblock Plus (free, and very simple to set up) and also clear out cookies, browser cache, etc. There are some free tools (such as CCleaner) which can make regular maintenance a bit easier.

Something must be going on with whatever device you are searching on and not with Google itself. Out of curiosity, I tried the search and had similar results as to what is posted above; all were relevant links and no ads.

I’ve also switched to using private mode for some searches, I’ve found duck duck go can be similar to bing and return weird search results sometimes.
Duck duck go also shows how many trackers are on the page you’re visiting, creepy and eye opening.

Like any search engine the information searched for is only as good as the words the person used to seek the information.

Run a Google search with and without going through a VPN for the same thing and see the difference. Search the same using Duck Duck Go and see the difference. Google searches are probably the single most manipulative tool on the planet, influencing what we buy, eat, believe, and of course vote for.

We get pummeled in the media by this Qanon nonsense, but do a Google search for actual posts or archives of posts by this person(s) and see how you’ll find virtually nothing other than news stories about it. Use other search engines and see how different the results are and you’ll find actual posts and archives. This isn’t a political position, merely an observation I came up with this weekend out of curiosity.

Watch “Social Dilemma” on Netflix if you really want to know how useless a Google search is.
