Is that enough for a c6 convertible? Those are pretty clean looking.

Nice choice Brian,
I ran a '63 SS 2 door hardtop through high school and many years afterward. I sold it when my first son was born... man, do I miss my car.

Wow thats awesome! I bet you were a popular kid!

I always wanted a Nova, a Chevelle, a Malibu ... any of those cruisers would be great

You didn't pull the trigger at that price?!

Just looked up comparables. My wife is impressed with this one! Too bad it's only a two-seater, but that's not necessarily a deal breaker.

Wow, the manual tend to command a higher price. At $15k it was a great deal (granted no engine issues).

It is a couple of years that I have been seriously tempted but I am saving up for a home remodel...

At the price point it is very tempting. However, I strongly suggest to first identify an independent mechanic local to you who is experienced working on such cars and get a quote for the clutch replacement and his/her overall experience with this model in terms of routine maintenance and typical issues.

They sell used at low costs for a reason, be ready for crazy $$$$ maintenance... never been an owner, just observations from my uncles and others.

These are the reasons why I've never gotten into older cars before. A lot of unknowns for me, and I generally like to research everything before I go in.

Thanks for keeping my head straight on this, gents.

I would look at a Mercedes 2004-2012 sl500or sl550. Of all the convertibles I’ve hadn’t had the best wind buffeting and the hair on the mrs. won’t get messed up. The only issue buying used is the air magic suspension and you need to make sure it’s good cause to fix that is major bucks. The car also has a hard top so great in foul weather and perfect to take out for a nice dinner w the mrs. The bmw z3 is also a fun car and can be had below 10k. Getting into cars is worse than being into watches... much more costly and you need more and more space. Good luck on your hunt

Quintessential classic sports car, I’m biased. Four seats, five speed standard, 2800cc fuel injected truck engine. Cheap maintenance.

I’ll second Themast’s comment. See if you have someone local that you can trust to work on it. I almost bought a used Maserati GranTurismo a few years ago, but couldn’t find anyone local to work it other than dealerships (which will bleed you dry real quick).

I suggested this as well. A very good option. Much more mainstream. I’ve got an 04 and love it. Suspension can be quirky but, if maintained or replaced, is quite impressive. There are also tons of Mercedes out there so mechanics are plentiful and reasonable. Hard top is awesome and a welcome reprieve in inclement weather. 5 liter engine is powerful and smooth and actually gets pretty good mpg. If you get serious about it, PM me and I can provide more guidance as I did a ton of research on the suspension/maintenance before hand.

I was just going to post Jaguar XJS and someone beat me to the punch. Growing up, these cars exuded class and elegance to me. Not sure why, but I think I may pick one up soon as a fun weekend car myself. The price is good and there are many low mile examples that can be found in your price range.

Actually in the market for something similar.....

BMW E30 (one of my first cars so I love them)
Benz SL R230 (which is the 2003-2012 body style) I've had a few of them, suspension is definitely a PIA on those.....
Benz SL R129 (1990-2002) A classic, as well.
Sleeper....Lexus SC430 (2002-2009) Love the white with baseball glove tan interior. Lexus build quality. You get the hardtop and the convertible in one.

300 SL / 500 SL
If you can stretch budget an early ~2008 v12 biturbo, sl600 / SL 65 likely fully depreciated.

Like the idea of the SC430 posted above. Those still look good after all these years.

Further down the rabbit hole...

https://www.autoblog.com/cars-for-sa...anTurismo-2011

This would be the reach car. Would totally break the 10-20k budget, and even this one is on the lowest end. If I were to get something like this, it wouldn't be a weekend car anymore - it would have to replace our A6. I've always loved this body though.

Not vintage, but a late model Mazda MX-5 sure is fun. Plus, they are dead reliable and low cost maintenance wise. Here is my 2016...

The Gran Turismo's and even Aston Martin Vantages are always tempting because of the $30-40k price point - you won't lose much depreciation wise but maintenance can be a killer... A co-worker of mine has an Aston and so far he claims maintenance hasn't been too bad/kind of thinking this is like the guy in his 80s that smokes, drinks, and eats fried eggs and bacon every morning - the rarity.

The mechanic who works on my Lotus also works on Aston Martin. In fact he recently bought a used Vantage and says they are fairly low maintenance if you go V8. He got his in the $20K range. Bonus you can get these with a manual transmission.

He also races Miatas. Just sayin'

Another upvote for the Wrangler. I had a 2 door in the 90's when my daughters were teens and they loved it. No problems with it. Just recently I bought a new Sahara Unlimited (4-door) and am thoroughly enjoying the range it gives me on Arizona back roads, though that's outside your stated price range. It does make a nice family car that can still go over-road.

From what I read before purchasing the Sahara reliability issues with Jeeps tend to be overstated, nothing like what you might run into with a used Jag or Alfa.
