In my browsing, that watch has been readily available.

If you want one then yes.

Normally I wouldn’t ask here but I’m a little unsure with this one. Yes, it’s a gorgeous watch and one I would’ve liked to own when first launched but at the time the grey prices were reasonable and some ADs would offer a healthy enough discount (everyone’s perception of healthy differs! ). I’m not concerned about values going up etc but there are a few around on the Grey market.

I know there doesn’t seem to be many around in AD windows/cases but doesn’t mean to say that they’re not in the safe. In my ADs case I know that they haven’t as they would’ve shown me before.

I’ve got myself down for the YG/Green Dial Daytona which I’m definitely having, no questions...would’ve love to own this too but the “yo-yo” in demand I guess has got me thinking.

Do you think the Platona has recently become harder to get or do you think that it’s a watch that could be easily obtained from AD?

It’s not nicer than the gold/green version or the white gold/blue model. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

No advice of any use to you, just a couple of personal comments FWIW. Tried one on at an AD and have to admit it's a beautiful watch (and quite heavy). I personally do not care for any of the Daytona line so no, I would not buy one if offered.

Platona is easy to get. No waiting list. White gold or any gold are easy to get. That should tell you there is NO demand for them. It’s good for folks who want one.

I've passed on many watches I didn't want no matter how hot they are in the market when offered from the AD.....so my advise is just to focus on what you like?

I have seen plenty of PM Daytona at AD, they're easily available. Nice watch and fortunately these are Rolex bread and butter watch so Rolex would love to sell you one unlike that of the SS. Last time I saw like 5-6 PM Daytona on display at a single AD, these are not hard to find. Image the profit margin on these $50K+ Daytona compare to the $12K SS, you can see why Rolex is pushing these PM instead of the SS.

No. To me the 500 c white kills the platona and it is no longer in my shopping list.

Perhaps there is a difference in availability in the UK, but each of the local ADs here has one in stock at any given time. It's not a hot model per say and there are no discounts or "incentives" at this point to pick one up so if an AD just offered me one, the simple answer would be: no.

I find the watch beautiful and love the weight of it on the wrist, but it is quite a chunk of change to shell out regardless of anyone's financial background.

I think it’s getting harder and harder - looks like ADs are holding out for list price even in the UK. I remember when 10-15% was the norm

I can't really afford one, so hard for me to say. But If I had the money I'd buy it for sure. Might be my favorite watch (that I never owned).

Hi Das,

I have owned a Platty since 2014 I gave circa 40kgbp , I had considered letting it go to a good friend but when I enquired on a replacement I was quoted nine months here in the UK . but discounts are thin and supply is dry unless you have seen one sitting unsold it is a very special watch .

As Gary says discounts were the norm I have bought two ,one with a 16.6% discount the other I traded some watches back so it was difficult to work out the discount .But last time I asked for current lead time I was told nine months

What UK Buyers must realise and I have this form my Local AD is tourists from outside the EU are paying list all day long and claiming the VAT back 16.6% on the full retail or msrp. They are also benefiting on the currency exchange rate .

if they choose not to declare it on the return to there home country its up to them .The AD is complying with the no discount instruction to the letter from Rolex

agree with Paul - AD's in the UK are reluctant to discount any professional models even in gold and platinum,

Last two I have purchased have been at full price - and I know I could have got them for 10-15% off maybe 18 months ago.

No. I like the weight but the color scheme never appealed to me.

I would pass - at that price point, I’d rather have a PP, ALS or FPJ

I would only buy it from the AD if they bundled a hot SS piece I wanted. Are there any other desirable models you want? Maybe insist on a bundle

I bought one in 2016. It’s a great watch. I could probably sell it for what I have in it more or less. Certainly the pricing now seems stronger than three years ago. Platona’s are rare for the reasons mentioned but I would think they are not very hard to acquire.

I’d rather buy the platinum DD40. Better bracelet, better movement, better looking. I’ve never understood the Daytona thing

Yes, exactly this... I even tried it on. It’s not a privilege to be offered an overpriced watch.
