John Mayer “Born & Raised” clock meaning

John Mayer did a full acoustic performance of the album “Born & Raised” last night at the Rise for the River Concert. It was an awesome show to benefit Montana/Park County. He also shared the meaning of the clock on the Born & Raised album cover.

He mentioned his love of watches of course, and also spoke about his own perception of time, and more specifically his place in time. As it turns out, the time on the album cover clock has meaning. He wanted to view what a life looks like as a single day. What he did is determine the average life expectancy of a US male, and convert that to 24h time then determine what time it was for him relative to that.

So at the time he released the album Born & Raised, he was 10:38am. I definitely calculated my own time after hearing this.

Well he must think he's going to live to 100 then.
638/1440=.44.
44 years old/.44 = 100

And I'm pretty sure that's a pocket watch. Not a clock.

Well, that’s not how the math works. He was 34 at the time of release in 2012. 10:38 = 638 minutes past midnight, and 638/34 = 18.76 minutes per year of age. There are 1440 minutes per 24h day. Dividing 1440 by 18.76 = ~76 years old. Checks out if you multiply 18.76 min by 34 cycles (years) = 638 minutes = 10:38am. Age 76 is about the US expectancy for a male: https://www.npr.org/2021/02/18/96879...t-half-of-2020

Also in his concert he referred to it as a clock. Looks like a pocket watch. Difference is irrelevant to the calculation

Not a big Mayer fan.

We seem to agree on a lot Brian. Watches and music for sure. I usually see him play in person every 1-2 years. I’m sure I’ll get blasted by some but he’s the reason I picked up a guitar many years ago. Still searching for the perfect amp, effects, and guitar.

Think I’m pretty close with with my Two Rock SP22 and Silver Sky among other things but the more I play I realize it’s just that, his playing. Something I’ll never achieve. Like thousands of others

You're preaching to the choir brother.

I'm not electrified, but JM is an inspiration to me as well with my old Simon and Patrick accoustic

Great concert, very lucky to have been there. Montana’s best live music venue by far. John Mayer gave back to our area by playing 3 concerts in the past 2 weeks. If you like him or not you can’t argue that he gives back more than the average celebrity. Cool story about the time and artwork. Anyone who says they don’t like him, I would challenge you to really give him a look as he is super talented. A big thank you to John from MT!

I wish this were a real clock if it isn’t.

People would live differently seeing there lives tick away in such a condensed way.

I live about 45 minutes from Pine Creek Lodge and was lucky enough to see the John Mayer and David Chappelle concert at Pine Creek Lodge on August 14th. Amazing show and for such a great cause. I have several friends who lost their businesses due to the flood. I think John Mayer raised over 2.5 million with the three Rise for the River concerts that he performed.

I agree. This album is incredible as is the cover art work. It's an album I listen to often on road trips.
