The never ending chase...

Every time I tell myself "That's it, I'm done.." something always ends up popping into your head a few months later anyway.

Lately, I've been a little "bored" of my collection, maybe even a little bored of the same line up of SS Sports models you can't even buy for MSRP anymore. Today, something got me thinking, and at first I thought it was a crazy idea but now I'm actually kind of considering it. Trade both my BLNR and Sub Date and get an AP 15400ST Royal Oak (Black dial). I've always wanted an AP but never thought of letting go of my Sub/GMT. But now, I kind of want to try it out and see what the fuss is about. Unfortunately the DJ is not up for trade so I would have to let go of both Sub & GMT to make this happen.

Another scenario could be to sell both Sub & GMT to get a Daytona C. It's always been a SS Grail for me so it would be cool to try one out..but is it worth the admission? Again, would have to trade both pieces if I do this.

So would I regret doing this down the line? Has anyone actually made a similar trade and ended up being happier? Curious to hear your thoughts! (Please vote in poll)

Haha, I was thinking adding a SubC and DD and conclude my collection. But I think all Rolex seem a bit boring, so I am picking up a SubC then possibly getting an AP RO 37mm in blue dial. May be after that, I look into getting a PM DD. Good luck and AP seem to catch my attention a lot lately too.

I'd keep both and save for the Daytona. Good luck with the decision. You have to go with what will make you happy.

Don't do it.

First of all yes, the Daytona is a hot item these days. Hell, it's been a hot item for quite some time. But - you mentioned you're bored with your current collection. If bored is the right word, you'll get bored with the Daytona eventually. And, you had to sacrifice two other watches to get this grail. Two watches you're going to spend a boatload of money replacing if you ever decide to do that.

Stay put. Two for one; bad move.

I've said this twice today, and I'm gonna keep on saying it. If you HAVE to get rid of a watch to get another watch, then don't do it. I have never had a good experience with that, and if I had it to do over, that is one change I would definitely make.

And yes, I think you will regret this down the line. Or end up buying one or both of them back. Which is a LOT more expensive, don't ask me how I know.

Try putting your watches in a bank deposit box across town. Meaning you have to make an effort and go out of your way to rotate em. Distance and absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Whenever I tell myself I'm done, something else pops in my head MINUTES later We have a problem

Selling the sub and GMT is a tough sell to me, although if you did it, it shouldn't be too difficult if you missed one and wanted to reacquire later.

The excitement will always die down after a while and most people end up "bored" of their watches.

As cliche as it sounds, might be more satisfying to try and bond more with the ones you currently have by actually wearing them, enjoying them and not thinking about the next piece.

That's working for me at the moment after 5 years (and almost 100 watches) of chasing that new toy feeling.

I was getting bored with mine (116610LN, BLNR, and Speedmaster Pro) so traded the SubC and SP for a Hulk, which I'll be getting in next week. For me, I'm not purchasing a car without a test drive and I'm not trading in two stellar watches to see what all the fuss is about. Just my $.02

As an owner of a BLNR, SubC, and DaytonaC... I would not trade both the BLNR and SubC for the DaytonaC. All are great watches, but I find it hard to trade 2 great watches for 1 great watch. And the GMT complication is more important to me than the chrono.

I’ve got a black dial AP RO. Fantastic watch and would rather have it over either the Sub or GMT, but not in place of both of them.

Sell the sub, keep the GMT, and fund the shortfall by other means.
