Larry, did you notice in the specs that the green Cerachrom insert has platinum graduations? Wouldn't that suggest this watch could be more expensive than we think?

The GMT IIc already has either gold or platinum PVD numbers, so I think that the price point will be slightly above that as a base...... I think the price driver on this watch will be the "Green Gold" dial - whatever that means..

Great thread Larry

Re above: The color of the green dial comes from blending yellow gold powder with aluminum powder.

At first I was determined "NOT" to like the new 116610 LV. I have an early 16610LV, a 14060 and a red 1680... I love the classic Sub... How could I possibly appreciate this new "thing???"

But as of late I must admit the new 116610LV is growing on me. I can see this watch joining my collection. Yes it is blocky, but not as much as my DSSD; and it has the glidelock, I absolutely love the comfort of the glidelock.

Is it just me or does the beefier case make the band look to skinny?
I wish they would have gone to a 22mm lug width with corresponding bracelet that tapers to 20mm.

So the new submariner, will be available in 3 colours, black on black, green on green and blue on blue.

My opinion is that the blue/blue (in white gold), will decrease his appeal, because it is only a matter of different metal, no longer different case, different bezel, different dots size.

And of course, if i ever will buy a new black sub, i will also buy a blue dial end blue bezel....... who will know it is only Ssteel instead of Wgold??

and you would do this because....?
the WG sub has polished WG center links versus the 904L steel on both the black subC and the Hulk sub...

I kinda like that "nickname" for the 116610LV "HULKSUB"

Rolex won't sell the blue bezel and dial to just anyone. Your watch has to be damaged and sent to them as they want to control the availability of these kinds of parts to deter people from doing what you suggested. They do the same thing with LV bezels. Plus, even if you did WIS's like us would spot the fact you wouldn't have PCL's and therefore not a true WG sub

The blue is very nice....WG is a very serious material especially the way Rolex make it. They do not do a white gold plating but a solid white gold material made from a special combination of yellow gold and other precious metals.

The WG model is actually more exclusive and expensive than the yellow gold model. (There are 5 models (SS in black or green dial, Two Tone with blue dial, YG with black dial and white gold with blue dial).

As for the green dial........well green is the corporate colour of Rolex. Personally I will never wear a green coloured dial.

I have to admit, the new LV looks better in these pics than the ones I saw on the main board. I still don't see myself wearing a green dialed watch, though.

I like the dial! It almost makes the ceramic bezel seem washed out, the blue dial should have the same treatment. I am most curious to see what "green gold" means.

From the Gold Wiki:

"Because of the softness of pure (24k) gold, it is usually alloyed with base metals for use in jewelry, altering its hardness and ductility, melting point, color and other properties. Alloys with lower caratage, typically 22k, 18k, 14k or 10k, contain higher percentages of copper, or other base metals or silver or palladium in the alloy. Copper is the most commonly used base metal, yielding a redder color. Eighteen carat gold containing 25% copper is found in antique and Russian jewelry and has a distinct, though not dominant, copper cast, creating rose gold. Fourteen carat gold-copper alloy is nearly identical in color to certain bronze alloys, and both may be used to produce police, as well as other, badges. Blue gold can be made by alloying with iron and purple gold can be made by alloying with aluminium, although rarely done except in specialized jewelry. Blue gold is more brittle and therefore more difficult to work with when making jewelry. Fourteen and eighteen carat gold alloys with silver alone appear greenish-yellow and are referred to as green gold. White gold alloys can be made with palladium or nickel. White 18 carat gold containing 17.3% nickel, 5.5% zinc and 2.2% copper is silver in appearance. Nickel is toxic, however, and its release from nickel white gold is controlled by legislation in Europe. Alternative white gold alloys are available based on palladium, silver and other white metals (World Gold Council), but the palladium alloys are more expensive than those using nickel. High-carat white gold alloys are far more resistant to corrosion than are either pure silver or sterling silver. The Japanese craft of Mokume-gane exploits the color contrasts between laminated colored gold alloys to produce decorative wood-grain effects."

This doesn't look "greenish-yellow", however...

I love the sunburst design dial, making the color seem to vary.....its so vibrant and rich!!!

Sadly,i cannot conclude the same about the bezel color....they should have stayed with a black ceramic bezel and let the beautiful dial do the "Green Reference thing," until they have a colored ceramic which is bright, vibrant and lusterous.

We should reserve any final judgements until we see in in the flesh though.
I remember thinking how hideous the green dial GMT always looked.....until i finally saw one in person,...stunning....totally different from the photos!!!!!

its a bit too green...the dial was fine enough being black when the bezel was green...the LV actualy looked really lovely...I would like to know two things:

1). is this green dial version a limited edition and there will be the regular LV with ceramic green bezel afterwards?

2). is the dial of all the new ceramic subs (blk/blue/green) 'maxi' dial or is that still unique to the LV?

thanks a lot :)
