Capetown Diamond.

Hello everyone.

Just wondering if anyone has bought a watch from Capetown Diamond? If so, good, bad?

Can't seem to find anything here at the moment.

Thanks in advance.

Jonathan has been great to work with. They sell a variety from new and used to 'franken' modded timepieces.

I have never purchased from them but live local to them so researched them to the best of my ability and have stopped by once or twice and would purchase from them if they had a piece i wanted. Things i have noticed.
Positives
I would have no worry about authenticity of the watch, them seem to be solid.
They clearly advertise when something is not a factory part.
They seem very nice to deal with even just as a tire kicker
Things to watch out for:
Their photos generally do a poor job showing the watch condition, ask for additional photos
They are pretty quick to switch out parts, like i stated before they will clearly advertise if they have used an aftermarket dial, but if they switched a dial with a factory dial they may not disclose, i was looking at a datejust jubilee vs oyster, i stated i like the dial of one and bracelet of the other and they quickly offered to switch the bracelet and or dial with other watches is stock to make a combo i liked. This might bother some.
Their live inventory rarely matches their website, so if you want to buy a watch i would call to make sure it was available first.

I bought an EXPII 16570 from them about 10 years ago. The watch, the deal, the customer service were all excellent. My only regret is that I flipped the watch two years later.

This to be sure. Currently the watch at the top of the 216570 list is one I purchased in August. Same stock number as on my sales receipt.

That said, Jonathan is fabulous to deal with. If you want additional photos of a particular watch, they've always accommodated me. I've purchased 3 watches from Capetown and have been very happy.

Live inventory is a mess. Very polite on phone but never called me back about ordering atmos. Seems legit, nice , but little disorganized.

Seriously, what difference does it make to you? Don't click on the thread if the topic doesn't interest you. If you feel the need to open it and don't like the context, don't respond

Are you suggesting not using the search function? Using the search button, would be a good place to start, rather than starting another thread about something that has been asked many times before. It has nothing to do about the topic and interesting me, it's about using the functions of TRF that the facilitator has put in place.....cheers:

It’s also about members helping other members and being courteous to them. The link you posted doesn’t work either. It’s possible the OP was looking for recent experiences, rather than ones that are a few years old. Once again, if you don’t like the topic, don’t open the thread or better yet, don’t reply.

To the OP, a quick 5 second search here on TRF. Whether it's a recent transaction or one 5 years ago, the search function is very useful.

I don't see "recent" experience, just see experience.

It worked perfectly fine yesterday. Not sure why some links expire?

So you decide to continue to put your 2 cents bin on a thread you complained about to begin with. If a topic doesn’t interest you and you decide to foolishly click on it, don’t comment next time.

It doesn’t matter if it’s recent or not. The OP asked a question. He didn’t ask for a snide remark in the comments.

I purchased from Jonathan Marcus at Cape Town - great guy - really took my time, asked for lots of photos, and he exceeded my expectations - great place to buy watches at somewhat under the radar prices given their circa 1990's website.

And I'd add to an earlier post - the watches pictured aren't necessarily the one you will be buying. Which is why I asked for lots of pics and was very clear - dial must be perfect, bracelet must be in great condition, etc., and I had detailed pics emailed to me - if I saw anything that I didn't like, I said so. Eventually we settled on the right one, and when I received it, it had obviously sat in a safe, still had a perfect green sticker on the back, bracelet is in perfect condition, dial is superb, and when I took it for a service, technician came out and said case had never been opened, and it was in pristine condition.

1999 18238 A series, Rolex Day-Date.

Behold!

I actually was in Georgia on a short trip some months ago stopped there to view a Rolex Daytona that i was interested in, placed a downpayment and wired the rest. Received everything as promised shipped to my doorstep. They are definitely reputable and trustworthy.

Don't Use Them

Made a deal with Capetown, confirmed via email, sent payment, sent them a confirmation number for shipment of the payment and photos of the payment. They then sold the watch out from under me 2 days later, same day they received my payment.

Forced me to spend money on canceling the payment and the shipping. They at no time indicated they would still attempt to sell the watch (if they had I'd have wired the money).

Absolutely Shady. Makes me wonder if they even had the watch. Regardless of the good reviews you may see here, I'd never buy so much as a cleaning cloth from Diamond Corp. My experience in 2023.
