My 8 month old 15550ST is suddenly, like today, running 5 min fast every hour.
Yes my 50 anniversary AP is running very very fast all of a sudden.
I had other plans but will be going to AP tomorrow. Any ideas what could be going on? I am baffled. Thanks. |

Does it need degaussing? It happens with watches if they have been near a strong magnetic field - you can get something of amazon!

Haven't AP figured out how to build magnetism-resistance movements? Not bashing, only an honest question. I was under the impression that most modern watches had some kind of anti-magnetic properties.

AP. movements are very fragile for sure. Regular movements they do are years behind in development compared the robust Rolex or omega movements imo. Op- Def check for magnetism. Easy to do with a compass. |

Yes, I had a situation once, until I realised it was laying to close to a holster, in which there was a magnet built-in and caused it to magnetise. APs are very sensitive like that. Worked fine after I got it sorted.

Try lepsi app for iPhone to check for magnetism. It's very sensitive.

This movement is made by Vaucher, not AP

Of course it will be very hard to compare any watch to Rolex in term of robustness… However I do own an Offshore TI with ceramic and I can tell you that I’m doing everything with with from extreme sport to cutting woods in the forest… So far so good ! |

Right, it's build by Vaucher. But it's most probably build to AP specs, isn't it? Or is it "just" an off-the-shelf Vaucher movement that is also used by other brands? Does anyone on here have any insights on that? I tried to google that when it was initally launched but couldn't find references to this movement and therefore thought it was a newly introduced AP exclusive. Now I'm even more intrigued.
It being such a new movement I assumed that it had anti-magnetic properties. Apparently that's not the case. Honestly to me at least that's pretty irritating since both AP and Vaucher are otherwise highly regarded for their technical prowess. |

current environment of iphones and magnetic chargers, it's really easy to magnetise a watch

Didn’t know this was such an issue. Out of curiosity, can you demagnetize at home?
Also, does magnetization cause any damage to the movement in it of itself?

Do you notice that the minute hand jumps a little when setting the time (pushing in the crown)?

Yep, cheap $10 box on eBay works great. Press and hold button. AC current flows through a coil in the device and induces a small current in the metals in your watch. This alternating field reorients the undesirable alignment of the static field trapped in your watch. Slowly pull watch away as the field dies to zero with distance the randomness should cause this original alignment to fade to zero. Check for magnetism and repeat.

Finally someone gets to the heart of the matter, nobody will notice it's running 5min fast per hour while it's sparkling on OP's wrist

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the info. Supposedly magnetization is a real thing. They did send it in to be fixed and checked out. I really didn’t touch the watch again after I reset it once just to make sure my eyes were not playing tricks on me, so I didn’t notice any jumping of the hands. I don’t know what to think actually. Just hope after it gets fixed it never ever happens again. And yes I owe you all a wrist shot. I will go and post more on other threads and come back. I will also let you know how it goes.
