Trying to get..

Hi all,

So after years of trying to get a Patek from my local dealer I've given-up and started looking for something pre-owned. I saw this and am wondering if it is legitimate https://www.chrono24.ca/patekphilipp...id26307371.htm

Seems to be real/not counterfeit. Anyone care to chime-in? I'm a bit nervous to buy a watch online like this.

Hard to tell. Is this a professional watch dealer? If it is, their contact info is on-line, and you can call them directly to answer or address your concerns. From what you show, it looks real to me, as far as that goes. You should also research the reference for comparison photo's.

It's being sold by an individual. Seems kinda beat-up but recently serviced. Trying to not be emotional about this.

My understanding is that these were never in huge demand. So probably not a good business back then to produce fakes good enough that it looks ok on the pics. Then there is the 2022 extract and the 2022 service receipt both of which the seller would have had to fake as well. Not impossible but I doubt it.

The key question for me would be why this reference in the first place - of course you may have answered that already. If it is the dial layout but you'd rather have a 5712 I would give it another 6 months minimum to see where prices will be then.

Just to add, what I find weird is that the last two pics seem to be post service, no scratches etc, whereas the first one seems to be pre service. Even the crown stem looks a little bent / the crown slightly angled.

Thanks. Well I like the look of the watch and I like the complications. I want steel. Bracelet. Something I can wear every day.

I would pass - it looks very worn, not box etc, and is not exactly cheap

Says has papers but an abstract is not "papers" which means Certificate of Origin. There is little or no recourse against a private seller on Chronos24 if you actually receive the watch for condition as there is with a professional seller.
I would pass also.

Agreed, Abstract from the Archives does not equal certificate of origin. I do not respect listings that conflate them, intentionally or not.

Pre-service the watch seemed very worn. Post-service it seems much better, but I'm sure it took one heck of a polishing job. And there's some significant usage stretch in the bracelet. Patek does an amazing job with service, but I'd still take the pre-service condition into account when evaluating the piece. The price seems very high for this particular model, possibly over priced by as much as $7-10K USD, maybe even more. It's not an in-demand model and depending on your wrist size, it might wear fairly small at 37mm with a tapered, I'd say somewhat feminine, bracelet.

Thanks for the help guys. Any advice on a better source for buying a pre-owned Patek? Or a dealer who might be willing to sell to me?

Check collectibility from John reardon. Definitely a guy you can trust when it comes to vintage pieces that are cheaper than most modern pateks.
