From the last 5 years:

1. 5711A Green + Baguette Bezel
2. 5712A Blue Dial
3. 5980A Black Dial
4. 5720P Green Dial
5. 5968A

Nautilus heavy list but I am a sports guy at heart but the 5720P is on my radar and I hope to add a variation of this one day to the collection. Notable mentions :- Skymoon + baguettes and 5935 Flyback
As a side note one should not denigrate anyones choices as these are personal. OP asked the question and we’re here to give our opinions but keep it respectful please message to the trolls.

Pretty basic tastes:

Pre modern is tricky because so many super significant one offs so I limited to models where there are ~25+ copies

570g
2499
1463
3448
2526

Sapphire crystal transition era

2499/100
3450
3700

Modern era
3940
5740
5950a
3939
5004a

Thanks for indulging my fantasies

With so many price points, and so many eras (and metal/dial variations) to choose from, it's really an impossible question to answer because I feel that all but the wealthiest and most discriminating collectors will readily change their list as they open their minds and learn more.

I'll offer 5 whose design top my list (in no particular order).

5738
3700/5711
5970
3940
3448

(There are so many others that I love ...)

Big difference between top 5 horological achievements and what I truly love. The 1518, 2499, 5970 (which I stupidly traded away), grandmaster chime all are awesome as are the 3940 and the first annual calendars as well as any minute repeater. The top 5 for ME is different. It’s the ones I love so are prob more boring and please understand I have loved my Nautilus long before it was a thing since the late 80’s.

1) 3700 in steel (also stupidly traded away) it’s simplicity with no seconds hand and it’s thinness and aesthetic is obviously the genesis.
2) 5740 my current grail as it’s both a nautilus and a perpetual calendar
3) 5726 (lucky to own one) where the layout is very 3448ish and is just a great calendar layout but I would like another one in blue as I own the white one if I can’t get a 5740.
4) 5712(also lucky to own one) as it’s just more interesting than a 5711
5) any grand complication with a minute repeater just because……how can you not love tbe gong even though I have realized a strap watch is simply not for me.

5370p (blue or black) - it was very nearly 5004. Although I always struggled with proportion on this.

I got interested in mechenical watches about 5 years ago, so my list contains mostly modern models. I compiled it similar to how I am building my personal watch collection: a permanent collection with timeless watches, consisting of pieces which complement each other. The only one missing is a steel / sports watch. Here are my picks:

5205G-013
5170G-001
5231J-001
5236P-001
5078G-001
