UK Watch insurance over 20k

The usual saga every year ... but I wonder if you have any recommendation for UK Watch insurance that might be also part of the home insurance...

WIth watches worth 20K (single item is 20K). Have a. Aquanaut which technically would be quite pricey to replace and an ap. 15202.

Try to get a decent Highworth broker and see what they come up with.

I found March very hard work to deal with for a quote and expensive - perhaps I was unlucky as they were recommended.

Suggest you contact a local insurance broker and ask for a quote for Aviva’s Distinct Policy. This home insurance policy is great for covering high risk items (watches, jewellery, art and antiquese).

Tbh I've never had any problems with them, very efficient, cover me for everything j need, and a pleasure to deal with, they seem to have the same members of staff from years ago, so dealing with the same people

Granted I've never had to claim, and hopefully never will do, but tgery have made me feel very comfortable walking around with a half decent watch on

Hiscox.

Worldwide cover for watches in an overall Jewellery & Valuables limit which you set. No need to name individual items worth under 15K each.

Over 15K they need to be named and also need to be worn, kept in a safe or carried by you.

Aviva.

On household policy, worldwide cover for jewellery and valuables. Sounds similar to the Hiscox above, need to list on policy, and either worn, in the same room or in safe once value exceeds £10k.

Dupe...

I would try the highworth broker option depending on the cover needed. My policy only requires items to be listed when valued above £50k, it just depends what you need and the broker will advise the best option - cost is about 0.5%. You can also insure for grey replacement at market value if a new replacement piece would require s long wait.

I have had good experience with Aviva as part of home policy but they may ask for a safe to be used when watches are not worn

Well i thought i'd share where i got to so far... this is quite interesting for me...
Covering 3 watches total 50K or so.
So
Lloyds offers cover - £1300 - no specific requirement
Halifax - seems to offer £798 cover no requirements
Hiscox - £990 - need an alarm maintained by a professional form
Aviva - £699 (although i have pension with them - so technically they said this was 20% off) ... need a safe S2
Direct Line - £2190!!!
A couple of brokers also have come back with £1000 or so
Assetsure - disappeared!

Tried TH March online and even as a basic it seems to ask for a very high amount...
For £30,000 is already at £1840...

Aviva, added on to house insurance, watches are done invididually and ones around the 10k mark are £30/year ish. I enquired about a pp valued at 30k and was only a bit more.

Dupe...

I have my Rolex collection insured but not my Pateks. I decided it wasn't worth the 2%+ cost for me (which was the cheapest I could find a year or so ago). For 0.5%, I might reconsider.

U fool,

Whatever your cheapest Patek is, you would be crying if something bad ever did happen

I have a thing about people who spend loads of money on nice watches and then become a tight arse when it comes to insurance

Because they soon start moaning when they are robbed etc

So me saying u fool is pretty tame, but I'm assuming your in the same camp, and that makes you one also

In my view there is no right or wrong here as risk tolerance is a very personal matter, just as the amount of damage above which somebody starts moaning...

There are cultural differences as well. No offense, but it always amazes me how little risk some of my UK and US friends are ready to self-insure. I have not seen them wearing suspenders to prevent their pants from dropping just in case the belt fails, but some of them like to get insurance against any possible mishap no matter how small.

Personally I want my toys insured against theft but I am happy to pay the price if it is my fault that I crash a car or lose a watch, hopefully w/o much crying. If I felt uncomfortable w/o full cover on a toy I would probably consider it out of my league in the first place.

Personally I'd be devastated if someone grabbed my Patek whatever the cost, especially for the % it would have cost me to insure, as opposed the replacement cost out of my own pocket

Maybe I should just call people fools if and when they get robbed without insurance

I think if you have ever had to use insurance the importance is brought home in a big way - not been robbed but I did have a strap failure on a PT Perpetual and had to claim for a replacement.

Sounds bad...

Getting robbed on the street is typically covered by household contents insurance here just like theft from the home. The devil is in the details as with any insurance - pay out for jewelry / robbery is limited to a percentage of the total amount insured - good enough for me, prob not for 5370P.

Try Chelsea Insurance Brokers as well, they found a home insurance for me that at a reasonable cost covers my watch collection including >£20k Pateks since the policy only requires watches / valuables over £50k to be named.
