Perhaps I am in the minority. But even if the 5170p is worth 200k down the line, mine's still not for sale. I'd sooner sell my other Pateks like the Nautilus etc.

The only people who would complain would be those who haven't got 1

But it's the big boy Nautilus

this piece is for real watch enthusiasts which are dogged in fine details.

(when it would loose 40k it would be nonetheless for me the most beautiful watch in my collection)
I agree, it was love at first sight for me! I had to put a deposit there and then after agreeing a nice discount!

It’s the tombstone that bothers me on this one, not the diamonds

Interesting to see the passion for the 5170p...I really personally don't like it at all but it's always interesting to see the variety of tastes with PP pieces.

Can't wait to see what happens as Basel...with the 5204p being discontinued and the 5170p...i'm guessing a new super platinum piece is coming and that gets me excited.

I also think Patek will do a new split second chronograph as they discontinued both 5204P and 5950R. 5170A is a possibility too as they can use the caliber CH 29 - 535 PS

Lucky for you the 5170P most likely will not be worth that much so keeping it will make a lot of sense if you like it as you do.

If the rumors of sale are true, the tombstone was off by only 3 years.

If these discontinuations are true, this would seem correct. Hopefully they have a new movement that will fit the larger case sizes better.

The tombstone is already accurate. It represents the death of nautilus availability.

Of the pieces discontinued, I have to say that the 5170P and 5396R-012 are true losses. Both are excellent executions of their respective complications and forms in my view. The 5170P is an elegant piece and a rare use of a diamond dial in such a nice fashion. The 5396R-012 was a lovely ‘upgrade’ to the main piece with its Breguet numerals.

I think both may well be future classics, but let’s see what Patek Philippe brings you Baselworld.

I was told the 5235G Regulator is also being discontinued. Is there any truth in the rumour?

Yes it is. If you go back to the first/main page of this subthread, you can see the discontinued list photo and the 5235G is for sure discontinued.
