Sourcing a 5712

Hey guys,

My father's 60th birthday is coming up within the next 6 months and I would love to buy him a 5712 as a way to repay him for investing so much in his education and sacrificing his watch obsession for my benefit.

I am now in a position where I can afford to buy him one, however every boutique I've visited has told me that I have to be a previous high-spending customer. I am only able to buy one Patek so I can't drop a load of money on other watches first.

Is there anyway I will be able to source one or is it simple off limits for a first-time Patek buyer?

Thanks

I'd rather not pay above retail for one though as I've only saved up exactly the retail amount and wouldn't be able to afford the extra £20k.

Stainless steel? If so, the grey market is going to be your only option.

+1

first you need to set what you think a "reasonable" price is and no it can't be MSRP.

I’ll take one as well if someone wants to hook me up please. Haha I’ve bought 5 new Pateks and couldn’t get a 5712. They are very hard to come by. In retrospect I should have stuck to one AD. Not 3 different ones.

No... you just have to buy a lot at all 3 AD’s

Maybe you’re right. I’m just glad I have my 5164. I gave up on getting a 5712 last fall and told my AD to forget about it. Then I went out and rebought a 5711 at secondary and couldn’t enjoy it.

Not to rain on your parade, but realistically speaking, you can't get a 5712 at msrp in short time of 6 months, esp without a prior PP purchase record or a strong relationship with an AD. The 5712 ( I assume it's SS you are looking for ) is just about the most popular nautilus after 5711 Blue. If you won't pay premium, you are better off looking at other more available alternative.

the phone bill will match the premium

not to mention the plane ticket to pick it up. having it shipped and HMRC will immediately add a 20% vat + fees.

Get MSRP out of your mind unfortunately. If you want it in that short of a timeframe from an AD without an existing relationship or proposing some kind of bundle with another watch, you are basically asking for advice on how to win the lottery. Grey is pretty much your only realistic option.

I should add, I was able to get extremely lucky earlier last year with the help of a TRF member. I am eternally grateful to that individual!

Unfortunately I think everyone here is spot on. I tried getting a 5167 earlier this year and phoned every AD in North America and the UK with no luck. Most unfortunately would not even put me on their wait list. Overall, I think that it's ridiculous to have to beg to buy a watch but at the end of the day that is where the market is. I purchased my 5167 last week on the secondary market after a long wait. There are still deals to be had, you just have to be patient. Best of luck with the search, I am sure your father will be elated regardless of the gift as it's the thought that counts!

You can PM 5712 owners to let them know that when they are ready to move on with this piece to let you know.

Buy up whatever Pateks your AD presently has in stock at MSRP, and they will probably get your 5712 for you at MSRP.

In UK and London esp, you are 2 years too late, you sure he wouldn't like a Calatrava or a Rolex DD?

Thanks guys for all your replies.

He's been on a waitlist to get a blue dial SkyDweller as that's the only other watch he wants but it's been 2 years and I doubt if he hasn't been able to find one then I will.

I agree. Either of the two would be great. It’s impossible at source the 5712 at msrp

Whilst I cannot help in your search, I do wish you luck in sourcing this lovely gift for your father on this special occasion. May I ask why you have specifically selected the 5712 and which version you have chosen?
