Favourite calatrava 6119 - 5226 - 5227

Hi community!

I am looking at buying the 6119G or R. Just wondering what’a the people’s favourite calatrava in here? 6119 or the 5227?

Which one is usually harder to get? 5226 is also stunning but I guess this one is the hardest one to get your hands on?

Looking forward for the community’s opinions and thoughts on the different calatravas

I like the 5227R but I suppose the 5226 will be the hardest Calatrava to get from AD since it is a novelty release.

I’ve been offered 6119g, 5196g, 5227 r &g. I bought the 5227g black dial and then sought out a 5127g preowned. The 5107 and 5127 appeal to me, but are long gone and preowned only. If money were no option, I would buy them all.

Really appreciate the Calatrava thread. Calatravas are my favorite Pateks and it’s nice to see some love! Last week, I met up with an old friend and he looked at my 5127 and said, “That watch is simple, but beautiful. Wow.” Exactly my thoughts about all the Calatravas!

I have the 5227R which I really like. I also think the 6119G is great and will likely be my next one.

However, I'm not a fan of the 5226 - others like it, but it simply doesn't speak to me, that's all.

Being the newest of the bunch, I think the 5226 would probably be the most challenging to get, but I imagine that will probably level off a bit once the novelty wears off (and the next crop of releases comes out).

That's indeed a very interesting family line-up on its own thanks to its simplicity and elegance.

You have a recent thread there: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=877229

I love the 5227R (automatic), its case is beautifully shaped and proportioned, the lugs look fantastic with the groove on the side and the thin end angle. The officer's caseback as thin as it is, is a great uniqueness of this model.

The 6119 is hand-wound and its caliber looks stunning. As usual, the case is worked with complexity (hobnail pattern) and with a different personality.

In the end, this is very personal and you should see them in the metal to decide imho.

I own the 6119r and prefer it over the 6119g, however I like the 5227 over the 6119g, but then again, these are "my opinions" and others may differ.

In reality, all three are amazing watches and there really is no best one, and perhaps in your situation as a first time buyer, it may all depend on what one you can find, or are lucky enough, to buy.

I preferred the 5196 for design, but wish it had an updated movement. Like the 6119 movement but prefer the 5196. Love the 5227, but prefer it w/o the date. So my preference would be a 5196, just with the 6119 movement.

I have a 5196 in yellow but if I had to choose today it would be the 6119 in rose

5227 if I'm buying new, 5107/5127 if I'm buying second hand. I love the hunter case back of the 5227 and the crown guards of the 5107/5127. These are the most elegant Calatravas without becoming fussy.

I actually like the 5296. I have the white gold 5296G. They are hard to find but worth checking out. Classic Calatrava with a date and no crown guards

6119R is absolutely the best, aesthetically and technically
5226 is hideous imo, can't believe patek pushed something like this to the wild, but I guess being a novelty release people will praise it and price will go sky high
5227R ivory Dial is a beauty, as is the officers case, its just the index seems a little too short for me

Thank you for the Calatrava thread. I have a 3919 that I think is stunning. It's simple, but elegant...and it wears much larger than it's size would imply.

I think the 3919 or the 5116 are the best calatravas

The 5227 is sublime, and with a date and automatic movement, it's wearable as a daily. The case (lugs!), cream dial and faceted applied indices, and that secret officers dust cover are incredibly charming. Looks simple ... is anything but. That's hard to pull off. My favorite modern Calatrava hands down.

Agree. I like the 5227 so much I am thinking about getting a white dial 5227g to match my black dial 5227g. The price in the preowned market is too good to pass up.

Yes, and from top grey dealers. I very nearly pulled the trigger on one of the two 5227G’s European Watch Co. has listed now. 5227s at under 25K USD seems a darn good deal to me.

For me - a 5119 owner - I haven’t warmed up to the larger bodied Patek dress lineup.

On the flip side I still like the aesthetic of the movement of the older model in comparison.

But if I only had the choices mentioned by OP, it’d be the 6119…

I'd get the 5226 but above all other calatrava's I'd get a 5196, either J or P. The J is timeless.

5227 would get my vote, but I’m not a fan of the 6119 bezel which is an unpopular opinion, ymmv. However, I would personally go after the 5226 since my taste leans toward the sporty side and love the case design.
