5065a - Seemingly can't screw down all the way?
Hey guys,
It seems like there's a gap between the crown and the case of my 5065a, even though I've screwed down the crown as much as I can. It's been bugging me for a while now. Previously talked to an AD about my watch, but he didn't seem to raise any issues with my watch in general. I should've alerted him to my concern. I've tried turning it anticlockwise for half a turn while pushing it down before screwing the crown down, but there's always this gap. I've attached some pics, it really is quite noticeable under direct light. Am I overthinking this? |

I am not intimately familiar with this specific model but this gap would bother me and I’d seek out other examples of this model to compare.

I went to the AD yesterday, however the Patek Specialist wasn't in. Believe it or not, they said this was perfectly normal and brushed off any further concerns on my part, which I didn't really appreciate.
Trying to book in an appointment with the Patek Specialist at the AD. Will keep updating in case for the benefit of other 5065A owners. |

I have a 5167a and the crown is like super flush to the case for me, and I know5065a's should be roughly the same, yours does look a very slightly bit out more than what I have and have seen, just have another eye check it in person.

The crown on my 5065 screws all the way down and sits flush with the case.

No, it should never be "flush" to the case.
If a screw down crown uses a gasket at the top, it needs proper clearance in order for that gasket to seat and seal. If the crown base contacts the case then the gasket cannot seal

5065 owner here. That’s because the gaskets are new(ish). Enjoy.

Thanks guys, the responses have been very helpful. There really isn’t much info out there on neo-vintage pieces so the forums is the only other place besides AD

I really don’t see a consensus on the replies thus far, so not sure you have received good info.
For the time being, as it’s “neo-vintage” I presume it hasn’t had a recent service, I’d avoid deep end of the pool until a watchmaker looks at it for you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I own a white gold Aquanaut, and there is no gap between the crown and case.

Larry has answered the question, the gap will vary with gasket thickness and assembly variations. Mansour’s crown gasket may may not even be functional?

Yeah I saw Larry’s reply. Correct gaskets are designed to be compressed until crown is flush. But a poorly installed tube can leave a crown “standing proud” despite being screwed all the way down. I think there can be more than one answer. There were many owners with variations - thus my point about a lack of consensus. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

But I disagree with the gasket being compressed until the crown is flush as this leaves zero space for wear.

I agree it looks odd.
I would avoid both ends of the pool, deep and shallow, until your watch has been serviced by PP. |
