Very nice green dial

Changes from almost black to a beautiful light green. Like a chameleon.

Thanks for the very nice comments. I am a diehard Gerald Genta fan and love the Patek and Audemars watches he designed, including those that reflect his design themes, but were not the direct product of his work, like the Aquanaut. Had the opportunity to meet him in the early 1970’s.

This watch came to me through some very unusual circumstances, resulting from volunteer work I had done in central Asia during the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. Even though valuable, it will get worn quite frequently in a variety of activities - since that’s just the way I live my life. Use but don’t abuse is my motto.

Very nice anecdote and I'm totally in line with your motto. Trying to find the right balance between preserving and enjoying the watch. The green dial (if similar to the 5905A's) is beautiful, very subtle.

Enjoy it well :)

Sure -- when it became obvious (maybe not to the US Government!) that the Taliban was going to take over, I contacted a number of the women teachers that I knew in Kabul. I have pretty good State Department and military contacts in Kabul and i wanted to know if any of the teachers and their families wanted out if I could make it happen. The first two thought (about an hour) and the answer was YES and through hooks, crooks and payoffs to smugglers was able to get US and European teaching positions for 14 (9 teachers, 5 spouses and children) and arrange commercial at the start and then military transport. No sleep for two weeks or so but it was worth it. Teachers are in NY State, Ohio, California and Frankfurt.

As it turns out, one's grandfather is an extremely wealthy figure in Dubai. He found out my name and sent the watch.

Many nice comments here and most appreciated. I think I’ll quote my wife when she was asked to make a few comments after I received an award for school building work in Pakistan and was referred to as a “renaissance man”. She said “no, he was just born without any common sense and never acquired any for 70 years”. Likely correct.

Wonderful watch and an amazing story!

If I recall correctly, didn’t you also acquire your aquanaut Singapore limited edition the same way?

If so, it’s awesome that your relationship is still going strong after these years

Great watch thread topped with an excellent human story. In my opinion the best way to acquire a beautiful timepiece…earning it thru selflessness!

Thanks for posting Op.
