5711/1A vs 5711r

It goes without saying that the 5711 need no introduction. Along with 15202 it's one of the most iconic sports watch and "Holy Grail" to many.

But , if you had to choose and could only keep one would you keep your 5711/1A or replace it with 5711r.

Now, even if you're not a fan of gold sports watches would you consider flipping steel for gold version. Of course, the steel 5711 is a more discreet edition and many might prefer it to gold for the simply because of it's original design.

I wouldn't have the 5711/1r as an only watch as it is too glorious to mess up, but if you have other SS then I'd def go for it.

With that dough spent you can get a simple DateJust as beater and use the 5711 for nicer occasions.

I'd pick the 5711R

Umm, that first pic of the 5711/r is all wrong. I’d burn it with fire personally

Noticed that also.

Back to OP's question, i'd get the SS blue dial, cause it's more versatile and the blue is nicer than the brown.

Stainless blue dial easier to dress up or down. Keep 5711a and if buying only at MSRP for either.

both are great however for a full gold nautilus my absolute favorite is the 5980/1R so for that reason alone I would not get a 5711/1R. If i didn't prefer the 5980 then absolutely however i like RG on black more than RG on brown.

Love rose gold, but think you have to have a certain style/aura to pull off a full gold watch....I don’t have it! So steel for me

While on sheer beauty alone I believe the 5711R edges out the 5711a by maybe 10-20%, the 1a is infinitely more wearable and the blue has the provenance. If you have a 15202 then I would go with the R and even then the 5712 is a competitor.

Also age matters - if you are over 40 the R is also more wearable.

Gold also scratches more easily

It's like it's been put on the 5980's dead body.

How is that a 3700 with a second hand? Was it a prototype?

Good eye. It belonged to George Daniels, so it is a prototype. Still, it’s probably a 3800, and not a 3700...

I prefer the 5711 1R over the 1A since they are basically just a 10-15k gap in price.

The 5711A just feels so dainty and fragile vs the satisfaction of RG heft.

5711R, hands down. Having said that, I can see the appeal of the 5711A for its discreeteness and collectability.

The r is truly spectacular.

The iconic 5711 blue of course. It's not even close.
