Don't forget Ireland - Dublin is a great fun city with great connections to the US, the Wicklow mountains are beautiful, the west coast is inspiring and wild with Galway as a base for beer and craic, and the south west coast is idyllic. Transport is great although it is really crowded in late summer. Northern Ireland is nice too - Belfast is worth a day trip and the Glens of Antrim are spectacularly beautiful and underrated.

But, yes St Petersburg is only a few hundred kilometers from me, so I guess we could call it eastern Europe. My point was, Russia isn't the EU (Europe) as almost all nationalities, require to get a VISA to enter Russia. It's not something you just drive across an invisible border to visit.

Yeah but really the only bits you'll really go to as a tourist are West of the Urals so in Europe

I second that! The Lake District is stunning, amazing scenery. Also the nearby Yorkshire Dales and further east to York, Harrogate, Scarborough (where I'm from), Whitby are all fabulous (ok I may be slightly biased :) but it's true!)

I've always been of the opinion that the only place you can get a bad meal in Italy is at MacDonalds.

Sure, as this needs to go on... My country only has a 1400km border to Russia, so surely I don't know where it is.....

What the border looks like BTW.

I think the part of Russia that borders the US is in Asia. I hear the bear watching and fishing are great there.

Europe Trip

I am fond of Ireland! I have been there 5 times and the west coast Is beautiful. I did a solo backpacking trip and met some of the most wonderful people ever. One one occasion I was walking through a small town and I walked into a pub for a pint and something to eat. I met a patron whose brother lives in my home town. He invited me to his house for dinner and I ended up staying the night and the next day his oldest son gave me ride to the train station. I still exchange christmas cards with people I met on that trip.

Negative, ghostrider!
One of my favorite parts of Russia are the off-the-beaten-path parts. I can highly recommend Aktru Glacier, and the Altay Mountains.

Obviously St. Petersburg is pretty, but the friendliest people, and the prettiest scenery, you'll see East of the Urals.

The Trip and The Trip To Italy are both fantastic and well worth watching and copying if you can.

The South of Ireland around Kerry and the Ring Of Fire, Killarney National Park etc are all lovely...if you get nice weather.

It’s a common/fair assumption given how amazing the food offerings tend to be, although there are of course plenty of shoddy places as well.

They also do have a different McD menu than other countries in Europe (as do other countries too compared to one another)

My first taste of fried brain (with artichoke) below was in Italy! Not to my taste, which is of course subjective, but a well prepared dish.

Late night patisserie ! Super.

Austria and Switzerland. So many beautiful small towns. I rented a car for a week in Switzerland last year, such a great experience. If budget is of concern Austria is much more value for money. But Switzerland is truly special.

X2 for Switzerland road trips. Quite possibly some of the most stunning views and locations to be had.
