I'm sorry to read all these messages about death and cancer. Life seems to be so unfair at times.

Bas, veel sterkte.

I am finally doing a bit better again myself. I had a knee replacement surgery on July 3th and another surgery to clear up an infection on August 9. I am beyond frustrated with this whole process. I hate being so disabled while I should've been driving by now. But, I'll get there. I'll take my own suffering over a family member's pain any day! Thanks for putting things in perspective for me, guys.

Vanessa, I am so sorry

.... so sorry to hear about your dilemma with your knee, Vanessa. That situation and your suffering should never have happened.

Glad to see you on TRF, prayers sent your way.

Thank you for your kind & thoughtful message

Dad's health is rapidly declining and he'll soon go to a caring home with 24hrs of help available in a second. His brain tumor is making everything so hard and since there's not enough help at home this is the best solution.
Hard times.

Bas: So sad to hear this. Prayers sent your way!

Michelle - I am humbled in every which way about the SD43 watch win. Still can't believe it and it will be a week tomorrow. I was not on TRF for a couple months, and didn't even know the drawing was taking place in NJ. Lucky 85!
Thank you for your kind comments. It was so excellent of you to post!!

Blessings,
To You and Art. (I love your story! So fabulous! )

Good morning Coffee Shop, I hope everyone is having a good start to a new week. Monday’s are ... fresh starts..... clean slates.... the day that can set the tone for the rest of the week.
So make this Monday count !

BBL I hope you are wearing your new watch with comfort and pride!
Bas, I hope you and your family are finding peace and some solace now. I lost my Dad a few years ago, and I know the “regrouping “ that a family needs to go through.
Vanessa, I hope your funk is breaking up and you are starting to move on. I’ve been there to and it’s a day by day , one step at a time process. Just take one step a day ,,, and you’ll get somewhere!

Cheers everyone 🥂(its 5 o’clock somewhere!)

Hi Michelle.
Wonderful to see you here. I have had a very big day, one of many. One step closer on the winding road, with detours, to completing the house, though.
Thank you for your post. Very nice!

I am trying to find Melitta coffee. None in stores here. Recommended in this thread by SG56..

My absolute favourite coffee is Kauai Coffee from Hawaii!
Publix sells it .... do you have Publix in your neck of the woods?

Yes. So, I will look for it.
Sometimes I'm lucky to have any coffee at all, forget to get before I run out. Need to replenish the cupboard.

Melitta (easy on tummy) is available online, but will try your suggestion.

Oh my I can’t even log onto the forum before my morning coffee LOL!
I don’t know the Mellitta brand ....
What I like about the Kauai Coffee is that , to me, it actually tastes as good as it smells! I don’t find that with other coffee brands....

Have a great day BBL ; I hope that darn house project of yours is moving forward a bit every week!
Cheers ☕️☕️

I will try your specialty.... since it probably is available here. Will update.

Thank you for the cheering, I hope my dearly departed (2 years today) will be proud of what I have done to bring the house back to (maybe better than it was in) its former glory.

Safe international travels to you and Art!!

...speaking of coffee, we've taken a licking to Seattle's Best, tho I found store around here.
Malita coffee is on the shelves in many stores up here. Haven't tried it tho.

I’m wondering if that’s like Starbucks coffee.... they’re out of Seattle I think ...

Well in Ontario, Tim Hortons coffee pretty much has the corner on the market.
It’s good coffee, not nearly as strong as Starbucks.

So,,, there’s coffee......
Then there’s iced coffee!
Starbuck’ Ice coffee beats Tim’s. Coffee needs to be strong when it’s on ice IMO☕️☕️

Girls Coffeeshop Talk

Hi All,
In my neck of the woods I prefer Caribou Coffee chain over Starbucks (sacrelig I know...hee hee). Dunn Bros is a small chain that roasts their beans on site. Local news station compared caffeine contents of various brands from select chains & found Dunn Bros decaf stronger than most others.

I check TRF these days w/home brewed on hand. Best wishes!

Janet... you are a coffee connoisseur. I did a quick search on Caribou and Dunn. Caribou has an interesting wiki and its success from humble beginnings. Same with Dunn.

I buy coffee that is common on shelves. Never time to seek a coffee shop.

Thanks for the post. Learned a trivia bit as a result!

Not sure about that but chocolate is a food group to me!

Seeing this IS a watch forum, I thought it might be fun to see if you can name all the Swiss brands you’ve owned and what led you up the food chain towards a luxury watch. Here goes:

I’m aging myself but am a watch nut since 1990. Big bro’s Explorer II Polar is the one I have to jokingly blame for my affliction. The various brands I have owned include...Swiss Army, Zodiac, Tag, Oris, Omega, Cartier and Rolex. Least watches I’ve owned at 1x = 2; most = 7, w/2 @ most being high price tag ones w/a Timex or other cheapos thrown in. Currently own an LVc & DJ41 but am seriously contemplating parting ways w/the DJ since it sits in the safe 90% of the time. Your turn...volley folks!

For me... I think it was fate that led me to Rolex LOL!
Anyway, I had always been a “fine jewelry” nut ; my interest in hand made diamond jewelry led me ( somehow) to start researching automatic watches . I was mesmerized by the idea of the complex hand assembled movements that Swiss watchmakers were known for.... that led me to research the various Swiss manufactures.... Rolex!! Oh my , the more I read about the company, how it’s run , how it survived the quartz crisis ,, how everything ( almost ) is made in house- and then I read Hodinkee’s article on touring the 4 Rolex sites......

Well I ran out and got myself a lovely little rose gold steel DJ 28 . This would have been somewhere between 2010-2011. While I loved the little thing ... I quickly developed a yen for a larger Rolex .... in early 2012 I sold the DJ and acquired a 35 Yachtmaster! Now that was a watch !! I treasured the idea of a platinum bezel ... ( I’ll always be a precious metal nut)...
I then stumbled upon a great site called The Rolex Forum ... and after “ghosting “ it for several months, I finally joined in the spring of 2012. I discovered an awesome community,,, made many friends from around the world.... met my True Love.... the rest is history I guess!

The Yachtmaster got sold in 2015 to finance some other pursuit ....

In 2017, to celebrate our wedding, Art and I acquired our “wedding presents”- mine was a lovely DJ 31, and his was an Explorer....( notice the word “was”)
I ( again quickly!) got the yen for a larger watch ,,, sold the DJ and now wear a 37 rose gold/ steel Yachtmaster.... now that’s a watch !!!!
Art sold his Explorer and now wears a Submariner no date ... and loves it !

Who knows where our Rolex journey will take us next ,, but we have many great companions along the way thanks to this forum!

^ That is quite a journey.
I haven’t found a partner yet though - lol

I ghosted TRF sporadically for years before joining in 2017. My 1st Rolex was a 28mm DJ w/white Roman #’s. Agree - great community.

Nice history, there... Me, not so much. Mostly really cheap watches for the work I did. I got my first Rolex in 2015, with an experience to accompany it.
Currently wear my departed dearly's Rolex - too sentimental to let it sit.
