Documenting my First Service Experience - Part 1

Hi everyone,

I’m taking my five year old Datejust to Rolex in Toronto next week for it’s first service. I thought I would document the experience on my YouTube channel. Part 1 is the “before” aspect where I talk about the watch and it’s wear and tear.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOx...dcAUcVlB7zjCyg

Hope you enjoy it, and stay tuned for more updates as I go through this process.

Cheers,

Bruce

Thanks! Taking it in personally so that should be a cool experience in itself.

Would you mind sharing why you believe the watch needs a service at five years? Has it run out of tolerance on the accuracy?

Thanks for the question. There are a few reasons why I’ve chosen five years as the first service marker:

- As mentioned in the video, the crown is more difficult to catch on the threads when screwing back down. It gives me the perception that something is awry or missing in this mechanism. I don’t want to run the risk of the watch not sealing as well as it should.

- I’m very interested to see how the cosmetics turn out as I’ve read some real success stories (and some not so successful) about Rolex’s ability to bring the watch back to “like-new” condition.

- Lastly, I just happen to have a business trip to Toronto this week and am staying within a short distance of Rolex Canada so I found it a good opportunity to have this experience in person and add it to my growing watch blogging repertoire in general.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I’m happy to chat more about it.

Cheers,

Bruce

Just donated this morning. Looking forward to being a Pledge member. I’m embarrassed to say it is far overdue. I get so much from this forum, it was definitely time to give back.

Cheers.
