5 incomings in 1 year, 4 @ RRP!

Firstly apologies in advance for the long post but I hope you will agree it’s worth it.

My handle suggests I am a newbie but I do have another username (albeit I don’t post much but I do visit this forum weekly).
The problem is that my other handle also my name and as you will see I don’t want certain people knowing what’s happened (one being an AD and the main one being my wife).

I think this post might divide opinions amongst you. Some will think I’ve been unfair on others. Some would have done the same as me. I’ll let you make your own mind up. The following account is 100% truth. Some will say a newbie posting this means it’s untrue but I promise you it’s all true....

I own a few Rolex’s and a Cartier but they were presents from my father at different milestones in my life... 18th and 21st birthdays, passing exams etc etc. My wife then gave me a 116619 for a wedding present which HAD been my daily beater for 4/5 years.

Incoming 1
Last year I walked into my local AD on release day and was first on the list for a 126600. I’d never met the store manager before but we’ll got on well and I was shocked when he called 3 months later to tell me it was he has the first one and it had my name on it. Since then It has been a regular on my wrist. I love the bulkiness of it and the red writing is significant to me as my dad had an original which he unfortunately had to sell due to financial difficulties.

I had officially caught the bug. It was my 4th rolex but the first one I had paid for.

Incoming 2
I then made it my mission to find a birth year sub (16800), it took a few months but I finally found a mint 1986 with box and papers. I probably paid slightly over but I bought the seller and knew he was a stand up guy. I didn’t tell my wife as we have a 3rd child on the way and she would probably divorce me.

Incoming 3
I have a 2nd AD near my office who I’ve become friendly with over the past 6 months. Four weeks ago he calls me to say he hasn’t got a skydweller (which I’m on the list for) but he has a brand new 116610LV if I want it. I snap his arm off and again don’t tell the wife!! I probably won’t wear very often (never until I tell my wife) as it’s not top of my “want” list but a great addition to the collection.

SIDENOTE:
Then last week the same AD calls me again and offers me another 50th seadweller. He doesn’t know I already own one and I can’t afford to buy another and just sit on it (he made it clear in the phone call that he would have to keep the warranty card for a year so I couldn’t flip). I go to the shop and explain that I can’t afford it right now but the guy I sit next to would love one and he would happily nip down and pick it up. To my surprise the AD says that’s fine and 10 minutes later I am acting as middle man as I introduce them to each other. Doing the right thing but at the same time someone in the list never received there’s.

Incoming 4
I like most on here out my name down on the list for a Daytona on the release day back in March 2016. I had been unsuccessful until recently.

My wife and I have attended my eldest daughters school charity ball. I was sat next to a guy who I’d never met. He had a new daytona C on. We got drunk together and talked watches all night. It turns out he is of a managerial level at a certain AD for Rolex. I ask him if he could get me a panda.

“No problem at all, just let me know when”

The next morning I wake up and can vaguely remember our chat. I send him a text and we exchange pleasantries for a few messages. Fast forward 28 days later I’m walking out of his store with a brand new panda on my wrist at RRP (this one the wife does know about!!)

To top it off. I was on my way to pick up the Daytona when I very randomly bump into a guy who owns a watch shop in london he had the green face Daytona on which is how we got chatting. I told him where I was going and he offered me £14k cash the following morning if I wanted to sell the panda!! I wouldn’t entertain any offers.

Incoming 5
I put my name down for a Harrods Tudor back in December and got the call a few weeks back. I made the trip to west london and picked up the watch with a 4** serial.

I’ve had to store the 116610LV, 16800 and harrods at various friends houses (who have promised me they won’t wear them) so I can’t get all of them in one photo but I can post them separately (apart from the 116610LV)

The photos are all below. I think I might just buy a lottery ticket....

Great watches and good on you passing the SD to a friend that wanted one.

Your situation and “the wife doesn’t know, she would divorce me” and the two different log ins so she and others don’t find out would exhaust me. Doesn’t it take the fun out of buying and owning watches when you have to live with the secrets???

Now I don’t run out and tell my wife every watch I buy beforehand but she knows about most of them well before I buy them but always when I do buy them.

If you have to hide things from your wife, maybe that should tell you to stop, not a great way to have a relationship.

It was a bit of British sarcasm with the divorce comment. The other handle is purely for security. My wife is cool with the watches i own it’s just a case of the number of watches purchased in a short time frame.

IMO they are all premium models that you can’t turn down. She will find out soon enough.

Hiding purchases from the spousal unit sounds like a recipe for success and happiness.

When you hide everything from your wife something is seriously wrong... same goes for having two users...

Hee hee, funny stuff! Seriously though: if you're not jeopardizing family finances or, God forbid, buying on credit I have no problem with your actions. You did a good deed for your co-worker and scored some wicked pieces so don't worry about it. The subterfuge is problematic but not a heinous crime. Enjoy your watches in good health.

Just my opinion,
Mark

I like the story leading to you buying a Daytona.

That will be one to remember for you, I’m sure
