Steel Daytona Sanity Needed

Can somebody please tell me why I shouldn't trade my Deepsea at a London WatchFinder's for a 2016 stainless Daytona white dial, at £17750 because I'm considering it

Because the DSSD is in a league of its own from an engineering point of view, domed sapphire and a date function

Because the Daytona is stupidly overpriced and it would be throwing away money.

Also I’m not really into the Daytona. I understand those who say it’s the bees knees. But I’m not one of them. DSSD is an engineering marvel.

I find the DSSD too top heavy and it doesn’t fit under a sleeve comfortably (for me) whearas the Daytona wears slimmer, looks awesome and if you change your mind later you won’t lose anything and could comfortably purchase something else. It is an iconic watch, good luck with your decision

In good ole US that's ~$22610 for a 2016 Daytona..... and how much will Watchfinder give you for your DSSD ?

Do some math and decide if you absolutely can't bear to live without a 2 year old watch that you'll be paying nearly $10K ( or GDP7.5K), over retail for.....

Have to agree and while there are those who advertise these prices on forums, and willing to pay crazy prices the trend will continue. That's why most end up on the grey market, where there are hundreds of them for sale, same for the so called new pepsi ceramic SS GMTs.

Only you can decide that. Bottom line is, that apart from wait 5 years (and I’ve never waited 5 years for anything) it’s just about the only way the common man can get one - at least in the U.K. sure there will be a couple of examples otherwise, but they are very much the exception.

Unless that is you wish to buy a boat load of watches from an AD, in which case I suspect you will lose more than the premium you are being asked to pay now.

I did a similar thing and it’s the best thing I have done. I have a watch that makes me smile every time I put it on, and that to me was worth it. I would suggest shopping around however. Watchfinder offers are low and their asking prices high. You could probably do better.

If it is really what you want...live for today and do it...my mom recently passed away very suddenly and without warning and I think of all of the things that she wished she had done.

The money would not work for me. Changing the watches out would if it is what you want. You can do better on the price.

Why not just get yourself on a Daytona list? As a DSSD owner I can't imagine they'd just turn you away. Even if it takes a year you could save thousands of dollars and still get the watch you want.

No, not if that is what you want to do.

Do you want a dive watch or a chronograph?

That’s the saddest post I’ve read here.

Personally, I wouldn't do it even as an even swap.
I love and enjoy my Daytonas but the DSSD has a special look and feel that is next level. Such unique features from an engineering standpoint and aesthetically as well.

I’m sorry to say the likes of watchfinder are not usually good value! Why not trade with honest enthusiast here on TRF for example (if you choose to pull the trigger!)

If you want a used Daytona, and you're willing to spend 17k, why not consider a nice gold version; the price gap is now stupidly narrow and, to me, a gold Daytona feels a lot more special. I've had both, and found I never wore the ceramic.
Also, best to avoid Watchfinder.

I wouldn't do the trade for few obvious reasons IMO:

1. Trade is not fare
2. Two different watches. I have DSSD and hunting for CC Daytona to complete my 3
Rolex watch collection(Air, Land and Sea)
3. I would keep DSSD and will wait for Daytona buying it for MSRP
4. I would never go gray market only AD or very trusted private seller for reasonable
price.

Not sure what the situation in the UK is, but gray dealers in the USA are selling brand new white dial ceramic Daytonas for less than that price (US$22600 as of now). So whether or not you decide to trade your DSSD for a Daytona, I certainly wouldn't do it for that price

Price aside, the size difference between the two watches are enormous. Are you sure you want a sub 40mm watch?

Few things and echoing some of the above!

1) it’s your money only you can decide if the deal is right for you!

2) going from a DSSD to a Daytona is a big jump, do you know what to expect?

3) WF is most likely one of the higher priced places to buy from! Have a look around other dealers but again this is based on what deal you have on the table

4) I’ve had both dial variants at retail and if I had to look at them at these types of prices I’d be looking at other watches or it would be the WG Daytona on Oysterflex!

Has the OP edited his initial post?

Ask as posting comments on it not being a fair trade is pointless if we don’t know what the trade is?

Don't do it, it's crazy to pay over retail price.

My father always said: "if you have patience my son, then you will be a man"

Get a good relation with a friendly ad, get on the waiting list and you will be rewarded with an amazing feeling when you get your daytona. Otherwise you will always have a bad feeling that you payed way too much just because you could not wait.
