Switch from a GMT to a Sub?

I've read a few times of Submariner owners trading to a GMT as they desire the extra complication, so I wonder if I might regret my intention to sell my GMT (LN ceramic) and buy a Sub?
In 19 years of GMT ownership (I had a 5 digit previously) I have never once actually used the GMT hand, and can't actually recall checking the date either... So I'm looking to sell and instead buy a no date Sub 114060.
It would meet my simple time-telling needs while putting a couple of thousand in my pocket - not to mention the beautiful symmetry of that dial!
Would others consider me stupid or wise?

At this point Rolexes are not tools. It comes down to what you want to look at on your wrist. If you like the symmetry I think it’s a good move.

I think it’s a good move. If you don’t use the gmt function and want a clean looking watch, the sub is the right call. Plus the extra cash definitely wouldn’t hurt.

If there’s any possibility of adding the Sub you’d have a great combo

The symmetry of the 114060 is awesome. I think it’s so clean and simple. If that speaks to you and you could care less about a second time zone and date, I would get the Sub.

The Sub sits higher off the wrist, and the maxi case is more chunky. I prefer the GMT.

GMT > Sub

I'm not big on FOMO, but in light of the fact the GMT LN just got discontinued, ask yourself if you're going to regret letting it go, since it will now be harder to reacquire in the event you miss it. (On the other hand, if you won't miss it, now would be a good time to cash in.) As for the Sub, I'm a fan. I have much greater use for the elapsed-time bezel than I do a second (or third) time zone. Combined with the Glidelock, it was a no-brainer for me. It might be a good move for you.

It's true the 6-digit Sub and GMT cases are not identical, but the idea that the Sub is chunkier is a myth. The GMT mid-case is actually thicker, but has a less-protruding caseback, so its total thickness is about a half a millimeter less. However, its lug proportions and general appearance are, for all intents and purposes, identical to that of the Sub.

The PCLs are my least favourite feature of the GMTc, and not having to worry about scratching them (or changing the date) makes the Submariner easier for ownership.

Glide lock makes the sub in my opinion. I’d have a hard time losing the date though. I put up with it on my Daytona because no other choice.

I have 114060 and the BLNR and the Sub gets worn a lot more often. I love it’s classic look.

Get a 14060M 4-liner. Much better looking case, sits lower to the wrist. Perfect.

In 19 years you have never traveled far enough to make the GMT useful? And in 19 years you never needed to know the date?

C'mon, are you a Hobbit?

Haha - I actually prefer to travel with my cheap 'holiday watch' which I wouldn't mind smashing about or losing.
I often find myself trying to work out what the date is and it doesn't even occur to me to look at my wrist (plus I'm not good at remembering to change the date after short months!)

I don't like the glidelock and the bezel numbers on any Sub compared to a GMT.
The allure of the 114060 I can understand but to me a GMT > Sub.

I have owned a black GMT iic. I enjoyed it for 8:years and sold it for a new sub date. I do like the gmt bezel but the sub’s Glidelock bracelet is the main reason why I prefer the sub. My next Rolex will be a Coke GMT iic once it comes out. I will trade out the bracelet to a Glidelock. The PCL is not my style.

Sounds to me like you've already got your mind made up and would like some 3rd party validation. If you like the symmetry of the Sub and you've never used the GMT complication then why not?

If we are talking about symmetry and proportions what about a 5 digit ND Sub? Might be easier to swing keeping both? Or at least wear it for a bit and see if you really miss the extra complications?

Dont get much better looking IMO than a 5 digit ND sub

Agree - love mine! The GMT has a great complication but if it's something you don't use / love, move it! I will say that the GMT is less common than the sub but there is a reason why the sub is so popular. It's an iconic piece
