Perhaps Rolex didn't want to pay for placement in the article as the other manufacturers did. You can bet there was no independence in the selection criteria. All those brands paid to be included.

Yup, my thoughts too...

Sadly, often the "reviews" in magazines are not totally impartial. I found somewhere that if you see a full-page ad for something in a magazine that is also reviewing such items ("We compare the 5 best coffee makers!"), the review is very probably biased.

I guess that a sign of this would be if the results read as something like "This one is good." "Yup, this one is good too." "Oh, this one is also good, but has a couple more bells and whistles," "This one is good and makes you look cool."

Even worse, sometimes companies pay for placing their products in articles ("before running out the door, as usual I made a quick cappuccino on my trusty CoffeeStar Duomo. Man, I love it! Such a beauty and the coffee tastes as it Luigi of Piazza Navona is trapped inside").

Maybe it was the wrong Indian that made the article?

I have another theory
GQ India probably wanted to include the DSSD but the local
importer might have had second thoughts providing info and a watch.
To see his unethically high priced "pride and joy" performing worst
than other watches in the group especially a couple that cost...
a third of the price or less...would have been devastating...and bad for business.
So better safe than sorry...

My guess is that Rolex didn't pay them a promotional feel. I've noticed in gun magazines there will be glowing review of a new firearm. Two pages later there will be a full page ad. Coincidence?

I suspect you are correct, especially with the new PloProf on the cover.

GQ US has included many a Rolex in watch spotlights before. It's possible that they already filled the quota of watches in that price bracket and didn't have room for the Rolex this time around. Or, like others have said, maybe the local Rolex rep didn't want to partake.

Fashion mags know next to nothing about watches. Bad reporting.

Usually the magazine asks the manufacturer for watches to test, paraphernalia, and/or marketing material for their articles. Simon de Burton has written articles (GQ Watch Guide) where Rolex has been included in past GQ issues I've read. Actually in the "Watches to Buy for 2010" the Rolex Sub led the list. My guess is that Rolex just didn't get their stuff into the mag in time for press......
