Besides me being new to the brand I really wasn't even sure what I bought until i was able to get it home and apart and until the. He seemed genuine

This is what I read from the op. Seems clear enough. Sorry to bring you down.

I check all my movements. You'd be surprised what you might find in there. I've seen some that all so rusty that they are not repairable - not to mention broken parts/case backs.

30+ posts but a member for 2+ years. not to mention i lurked for quite some time before registering. you see why my post count is so low? this is the second or third time someone has made suggestions i no longer participate, i have no intention of doing that, you're either going to have to learn to put up with me pointing out the b.s. that spews forth from some members keyboards, or ignore me. your choice. perhaps one day you might join in, then maybe we won't have to read the negativity/insults/accusations against people that are posted. i'm a pretty nice guy but i have a very low tolerance for keyboard cowboys and online bullies.

if you think i attacked someone with my post you must live a very sheltered life. that post was just pointing out the absurdity that some people here choose to post. they don't get called out on it by people with more posts but when i have the balls to do it i am chastised because of my low post count. that's a shame.

@SUBversive i can see your confusion now, i read it as taking the bracelet off and matching serial to paperwork, not actually taking the watch apart.

i believe it! i was just saying since he requested a referral to someone to service the watch that he probably didn't care to open it himself.

Never said not to participate, just that it would be your loss if you left. However, obviously someone else suggested that to you before so you are sensitive.

I am glad you are sticking around, since the forum is more fun with more personalities.

No I have not taken the case back off to see what kind of shape the movement is in. While i have no doubt i could get it off I'd rather let the pro's handle that. I have zero reason to believe it's not 100% authentic but rather original albeit "worn" condition. I did have a very nice conversation with Bob Ridley's shop. They seem to come very highly recommended.

Not going to go through all the posts but in my opinion ........

There's a good deal & then there's just plain taking advantage of someone either elderly\ with their back to the wall

If your happy with the deal - thats all that maters.

(Not sure why but kind of wish I hadn't read your post )

Morals aside, something smells funny...maybe a stolen watch?
Whatever - OP, you now have a nice watch...now go learn to distinguish "you're" from "your"

You should read all the posts prior to making an opinion. The OP explained the situation pretty clearly. There was no taking advantage of anybody. He paid the asking price (which the seller new was low) and both parties left happy.

Here's what I took from the previous 134 posts--two consenting adults willfully entered into, and consummated, a business transaction under mutually-agreeable terms.

That being said, perhaps the OP gave the wrong impression in his first post by being too "gleeful" about the deal he had found?

In my opinion, he took a risk by buying it. How would this thread read if the original post was "bought a watch from a guy in a truck for $900, turned out to be a fake". To take it further, what if OP said "bought a watch from a guy in a truck...he wanted $900 but I paid him $3000 instead, turned out to be fake".

I really don't think this part of the story is accurate.

I mean....c'mon.......He KNEW it was worth 4 or 5 thousand dollars and he just decided to sell it for $900???

yo, just how is it the seller knew it was worth $4-5k? it wasn't stated so it must be your opinion.

i really wonder how many of the folks here citing moral responsibility, ethics.... .ad nauseum use the same concepts in their business/professional life & have never found themselves buying a boat, property, expensive vehicle, etc at a fraction of its value & didn't feel good about it.

Go back and read the OP's post #38. It is clearly stated the guy knew it was worth more and didn't care.

I realize that this is what the OP stated, but I just don't believe it. He sold the guns for what they were worth, but then he is willing to take a bath on the watch to the tune of several thousand dollars???

If you are referring to me......

That is my point....HE DIDN'T know it was worth $4-5k and he thought it was worth $900. And yes........I do use these same moral concepts in my professional and personal life regardless of what I am dealing with.....whether it be property purchase, contract negotiations (with the hospital that I have an exclusive contract with for providing of anesthesia services), or in dealing with my employees that work for my business.

Moral responsibility and ethics are in ALL facets of life and how you deal with things says something about character.

But this is WAY OFF TOPIC now. I won't post in this thread again since I have beat this horse to death.

Jason: I totally get what you are saying, but the guy may have been really into guns therefore he had a great understanding of the market. The watch probably wasn't big deal to the guy and he had it sitting around for years and wanted it gone so the amount of money wasn't important. He had a buyer that was there and he gave him a price he couldn't refuse.

I would have to second Padi on this one. Should have paid a "more" fair price.

Cheers,

What you did to the old man is something NOT to be proud of. Anyway to each his own. Hope your new watch will give you genuine happiness.
